Disneyland Just Ran A Special Star Wars Performance And This Needs To Start Happening Every Night

As a lifelong Disney enthusiast who has witnessed the magic unfold across generations, I can confidently say that the absence of live shows and interactive experiences at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been a glaring omission. Five years have passed since its grand unveiling, and while the land itself is a marvel, it’s high time we added some pizzazz to keep up with the Disney standard.

Approximately five years ago, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge debuted at Disneyland, though initial attendance fell short of our projections. Despite this, the new theme park area was truly remarkable. It wasn’t until several months later that Rise of the Resistance, one of Disneyland’s top attractions today, opened and fully realized the land. While there were many appealing aspects to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, it also had some noticeable absences.

Last night, some long-awaited sights at Galaxy’s Edge materialized as promised. A grand finale event called “Blaze Your Path: The Finale” unfolded. This live performance marked the climax of a multi-day Disneyland adventure for a Make-A-Wish group and their families, although everyone present got to witness the conclusion. The spectacle featured an awe-inspiring lightsaber duel high above the land between Rey and Kylo Ren on a catwalk. Here’s a clip shared by Touring Plans Guy Selga, which you can watch below.

During the launch of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in 2019, a comparable performance was staged, marking the only other instance of such an event. This unique spectacle was initially exclusive to Make-A-Wish and, unfortunately, didn’t recur for the general public. However, I sincerely hope that this extraordinary show will become a permanent fixture at Disneyland. Ideally, it should be incorporated into the regular lineup of attractions at Disneyland in the future.

This unique spectacle is particularly special since there’s no other similar show playing currently. Remarkably, a performance of this caliber was featured in the final act of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser narrative at Walt Disney World, featuring Lanny Smoot’s ingeniously designed extendable lightsaber. However, due to its high cost and the temporary closure of the Galactic Starcruiser, only a select few had the opportunity to experience this. Regrettably, even if you’re willing to pay for it now, it’s no longer available.

Originally, ideas for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge featured potential elements like a stage show and a table-service restaurant, but these never came to fruition within the park. It’s been speculated that they were initially planned for Galaxy’s Edge, only to be developed later as part of the Galactic Starcruiser experience instead.

With Galactic Starcruiser no longer operational, let’s incorporate those distinctive features into Galaxy’s Edge. Live entertainment is a standout aspect in every Disney theme park, and nighttime performances are particularly captivating. As Disneyland prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary next year, it appears that a limited-run show like this would be worthwhile, even if it were planned for just a year.
