As a dedicated admirer of James McAvoy’s craft and charisma, I find his journey through Hollywood truly captivating. His anecdotes about meeting his celebrity crush Jennifer Aniston, and almost landing the role of Tom Riddle in Harry Potter, only add to my fascination with his life experiences.
James McAvoy recently opened up about his first time meeting his celebrity crush.
Earlier this week, the star of “Speak No Evil” made an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live!” to discuss his forthcoming movie. During the interview, he was questioned about his favorite celebrity and whether or not they’ve ever crossed paths.
McAvoy disclosed that the person was indeed Jennifer Aniston. He had encountered her in the past, however, he remarked that their encounter didn’t go particularly well. Quickly adding for clarity, he emphasized that this wasn’t due to any lack of greatness on her part.
He remembers back to a time when he attended a party in Los Angeles at the age of 22. There, he met Lucy Liu, who turned out to be incredibly friendly. She invited him to meet her friends, saying something like ‘Come join my group’,” he recounted about his initial meeting with the star of The Morning Show.
In a casual and straightforward manner, we could say: The actress from Shazam! Fury of the Gods introduced him to a group of friends, among whom was Jennifer Aniston.
He mentioned he had parked next to Jennifer Aniston, and as Liu introduced him to his friends, saying ‘Meet my friend James,’ she was unexpectedly approached by an old high school acquaintance. She left the group, leaving him standing there with everyone greeting him as a newcomer.
Without thinking, he spontaneously exclaimed: “Are you Jennifer Aniston from ‘Friends’?”, a statement that perhaps wasn’t the most graceful. “It was awkward,” he admitted. “But she was very pleasant.
During an interview on “Happy Sad Confused,” the star of “Split” shared that he nearly landed the part of Tom Riddle in the “Harry Potter” movies early in his career. He explained that, upon auditioning for the role, the studio was considering him and ten other actors to potentially select from at a later time.
The X-Men actor shared with host Josh Horowitz that it was a quite unusual offer. They proposed a significant sum, which, for him at the time, was an immense amount – around 40 thousand pounds, if my memory serves me right. He had done minimal work before this and wouldn’t be able to work again for approximately seven months, I believe.
He had thought about the possibility, but chose to seek advice from his longtime representative, Ruth Young. In response, she firmly advised against it, saying “Definitely not.” Consequently, he opted for a stage production that ended with him being jeered by an individual exhibiting homophobic behavior instead.
McAvoy stated that he chose to do something else instead, earning approximately £275 per week. He shared that he has no second thoughts about it. ‘It played a significant role in my development,’ he explained, ‘I was truly growing and gaining experience.’
