Manmarziyaan turns 6: Not Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu but THIS iconic Bollywood pair was initially cast for the film

As a passionate cinephile who has been following the twists and turns of Bollywood for the past two decades, I must say, the journey of Manmarziyaan is nothing short of intriguing! It’s fascinating to learn about the re-casting that took place, with Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu stepping into roles originally intended for Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share that today marks the 6th anniversary of Manmarziyaan, a film that continues to captivate audiences. From its creators to its loyal fans, everyone seems to be reminiscing about the unforgettable journey this project took us on. Interestingly, you might not know that Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu were not the original choices for their roles! Let’s delve into the story behind the cast change.

Originally, Manmarziyaan was helmed by Sameer Sharma, who had previously gained fame with Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. The initial cast featured Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar, a successful acting pair from Dum Laga Ke Haisha. They not only agreed to star in the film but also filmed for approximately a week in Amritsar before production was temporarily halted.

From the start, both Vicky Kaushal and music composer Amit Trivedi were involved in the creation of Manmarziyaan. When the film was remade, however, it was Vicky who took on a leading role alongside Taapsee Pannu and Abhishek Bachchan. This time around, Anurag Kashyap was in charge of directing.

Previously, Ayushmann posted a sneak peek from the filming location together with Bhumi, expressing his excitement about starting work on “Manmarziyaan,” a heartfelt romantic tale set in Punjab. You can see it here: “[Manmarziyaan] will begin filming at the end of January. I’m eagerly awaiting to capture this beautiful romance on camera in Punjab.

In a later interview on No Filter Neha season 3, Ayushmann Khurrana discussed his departure from the project. He stated that at the time, there seemed to be a disagreement between the director and producer. After shooting for ten days, he found himself occupied with other films such as Bareilly Ki Barfi and Meri Pyari Bindu. Similarly, Bhumi also got involved in her projects like Toilet – Ek Prem Katha. Eventually, the cast was replaced.

The film Manmarziyaan received favorable responses from both viewers and critics. When asked if Ayushmann ever regretted missing out on this great project, the 40-year-old replied, “Not in the least. I had other engagements that were equally captivating, and it’s impossible to do everything.

If Manmarziyaan had brought Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar together again after their successful collaboration in Dum Laga Ke Haisha in 2015, the outcome might have been quite distinct. One can’t help but wonder if they could have matched the performances of Vicky Kaushal, Taapsee Pannu, and Abhishek Bachchan in that film. Share your thoughts with us @pinkvilla!
