Deadpool & Wolverine's Hidden Les Miserables Easter Egg Finally Confirmed

As a seasoned moviegoer who has seen more films than I care to count, I must admit that I was thoroughly impressed by the Easter egg hidden within the opening credit sequence of Deadpool & Wolverine. Being an ardent Les Misérables fan, the sight of “24061” carved into Logan’s adamantium skull was a delightful surprise. It’s not every day you find such a subtle yet significant nod to one of my favorite musical adaptations in a superhero movie!

For nearly two months, it’s been a treasure trove that just won’t stop yielding surprises, and there’s still more to uncover about its subtle hints and Easter Eggs. Moreover, in recognition of a fan’s keen eye, the creators have acknowledged a barely discernible reference to Hugh Jackman’s exceptional portrayal in the 2012 film adaptation of the musical “Les Misérables”.

In simpler terms, Levy posted about noticing a number etched on Wolverine’s adamantium skull during the opening credits. The number “24061” can be seen on the underside of the upper jaw, amidst the confusion of blood and metal fragments. This number is reminiscent of the prison number of Jean Valjean from Les Misérables, a character Jackman played exceptionally well over a decade ago for those familiar with music.

As Levy expressed his awe at someone finally acknowledging the connection (though there are likely others who claim they spotted it long ago), the post itself echoed the reference to “Pr prisoner 24061” which was depicted on a map in Deadpool 2. Jackman’s influence in the Deadpool series has remained substantial due to his friendship with Ryan Reynolds, and Deadpool & Wolverine essentially continued that bond in numerous ways.

Is There a Place for Hugh Jackman in the MCU?

Although no official announcements about Hugh Jackman rejoining the MCU have been made, there’s buzz suggesting that Wolverine might show up in “Avengers: Secret Wars” and possibly appear in subsequent projects as well. This speculation is just a rumor at this point, but considering the past unpredictability of Marvel, it’s not entirely implausible. Some fans predict that the sixth Avengers movie could be his comeback, but given the long gaps between Marvel productions, the idea of Jackman continuing beyond that seems quite speculative for now.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on the upcoming Avengers film, where it’s rumored that Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool will make an appearance. Moreover, speculations are rife about his fourth solo adventure as the wisecracking Merc with a Mouth. Interestingly, Deadpool’s role in a suit offers him greater flexibility within the franchise. This means that while Ryan Reynolds might not always be the one donning the costume, we can expect to see his face – albeit heavily masked – on select occasions. With this adaptable setup, it seems likely that Deadpool will grace our screens more frequently, especially if his box office dominance continues to outshine the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During this summer, Deadpool & Wolverine served as a revitalizing force for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, the task of matching the success of this year’s sole billion-dollar Marvel Studios movie falls on 2025’s Captain America: Brave New World, set to release on Valentine’s Day. Additionally, Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts are scheduled for later in the year, continuing the momentum.

Deadpool & Wolverine
is still playing in cinemas.
