New Logan Variant Revealed in Unused Deadpool & Wolverine Concept Art

As a longtime Marvel fan and someone who has been following the adventures of Wolverine since his debut, I can confidently say that Deadpool & Wolverine was a game-changer. The sheer number of cameos and variants of the iconic character were nothing short of breathtaking. Although it’s always disappointing to see concepts left on the cutting room floor, I understand why certain designs didn’t make it into the final cut given the film’s runtime.

The widespread speculation about the MCU’s downfall was undoubtedly overblown with the arrival of Deadpool and Wolverine. They smashed numerous records, outperforming 2019’s Joker as the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever made. A significant factor in this success could be the impressive array of cameos the film managed to secure. Notable figures like Chris Evans, Channing Tatum, and Wesley Snipes graced our screens, but what truly set it apart was Hugh Jackman portraying multiple versions of Wolverine.

In the thrilling world of movies I’m immersed in, the Wolverine variants significantly shape the narrative, and throughout my quest, I come across numerous versions. Unfortunately, some exceptional ones didn’t make it past the final edit (not their fault). One such version is a Weapon X design, a familiar sight to fans from the debatable X-Men Apocalypse. Concept artist Phil Saunders shared a glimpse of what Jackman might have appeared like if he reprised that look on Instagram.

In case you’ve watched the movie, you’d recognize that a specific design, though intriguing, was never shown. Given the movie’s lengthy runtime of more than two hours, it’s understandable that not every design could be featured, but this one, being quite appealing, seemed a bit unusual to be omitted from the film. It’s possible that one reason for this could be that the design had already been showcased in the X-Men franchise previously, prompting the creators to focus on other designs such as the comically accurate Wolverine instead.

Concept Art Reveals Deadpool & Wolverine Almost Had Even More Cameos

The movie featuring Deadpool and Wolverine was already brimming with cameos and variations, but there were almost even more. Concept art such as the Weapon X variant offers a glimpse into what the film might have been if all planned scenes made it onto the screen. For instance, we almost saw a female version of Juggernaut, inspired by the character’s design from X-Men: The Last Stand.

A surprising design features a unique blend of Wolverine and Deadpool characters. This fusion results in Deadpool sporting Wolverine-like claws and the distinctive Wolverine mask. Initially, these appearances might have been brief, but it’s clear that fans would have erupted with excitement upon seeing such designs, no matter how fleeting they were.

Among the most significant responses was the excitement generated when familiar characters from earlier Marvel series, such as Elektra and Blade, made another appearance. It came as quite a shock to many that Channing Tatum was finally given the chance to portray Gambit, a role he had long advocated for but never managed to secure.

As a movie critic, let me share my thoughts on an unexpected twist: Henry Cavill, once known for donning the cape as Superman, made a surprising appearance in a lengthy scene, this time embodying a Wolverine analogue. Deadpool casually drops hints about his potential happiness within Marvel Studios, possibly alluding to the fact that he was replaced as Superman during the universe’s revamp under James Gunn’s guidance. However, fans should temper their expectations as Hugh Jackman remains committed to portraying the iconic character until he turns 90, assuming Deadpool manages to persuade him to do so.
