After the reintroduction of Kobe Bryant’s collection with Nike Basketball, four primary designs have been released: the Nike Kobe 4, 6, 8, and 9 Elite Protros. The latest model, the Nike Kobe 9 Elite Protro, just made a comeback last month, with more releases on the horizon. Furthermore, it seems that the Nike Kobe 5 Protro is set to return as well.

A new version of the shoe has emerged this year with various color options, one of them being the “X-Ray” edition set to drop soon. This latest design is often referred to as the “Year of the Mamba,” and was earlier speculated to be a purple shade known as “Eggplant.” Indeed, this version features a dominant purple tone throughout its upper. Moreover, it boasts a golden snake coiling around the Swoosh on the side, symbolizing Kobe Bryant’s “Mamba Mentality” and aligning with the Year of the Snake starting in January 2025 – a month before this sneaker is scheduled to hit the market.

Currently, there’s no information available about the “Year of the Mamba” version of the Nike Kobe 5 Protro as Nike Basketball hasn’t disclosed any details yet.
