As a long-time follower of both “The View” and reality TV competitions like “Dancing With The Stars,” I find myself torn between two perspectives. On one hand, it’s fascinating to witness Anna Delvey’s transformation from a notorious fraudster to a contestant on a popular dance show. On the other, as someone who has always appreciated the power of redemption stories, I can’t help but question if this opportunity is being handed out fairly.
The panelists on “The View” have decided to make adjustments following their statements about Anna Delvey potentially appearing on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” this season.
As a gamer, I was dismayed when I heard about the talk show hosts’ sentiments during their September 5th episode, aired on ABC, regarding the decision to include Anna Sorokin (also known as Delvey) in the upcoming cast of the dance reality competition. Given her ongoing criminal charges and apparent lack of remorse for her actions, it seems unfair and out of place to have her participate.
Anna Delvey, a known swindler and fake German heiress, has been identified. She allegedly deceived numerous high-society figures in Manhattan, obtaining hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, goods, and services from them. The events surrounding her were portrayed in the Netflix series Inventing Anna, featuring Julia Garner as Delvey and Shonda Rhimes as its executive producer.
Following her four-year prison term, Delvey has been under house arrest since 2021, awaiting a decision on her deportation case. Interestingly, she was given approval by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to participate in “Dancing with the Stars”. During her time on the show, she will still be required to wear an ankle monitor.
Goldberg remarked, “I often recall the heartbreaking stories of families whose loved ones have been detained by ICE. These families have sought justice through the courts in hopes of reuniting with their father, mother, or sibling. In this case, a woman was granted permission to perform some action. Does this suggest that there might be two different sets of rules or treatment for ICE?
“I like a come-up, but when are there consequences to people’s actions?” Sunny Hostin asked.
Alyssa Farah Griffin, one of the co-hosts, pointed out that although Delvey seems to be seeking a chance at redemption, she has yet to fully acknowledge her wrongdoings. As is often the case with con artists, they typically continue their deceitful behavior. In other words, Delvey still owes people money and it appears she hasn’t stopped being a con artist.
In reaction to the remarks made on social media, Delvey suggested that the organizers should ensure they had accurate information.
Even though you’re allowed your personal beliefs, it’s crucial that the information you share is accurate. I settled all debts more than 3 years ago. I eagerly await your public rectification on the platform where we used to communicate.” – Delvey wrote on The View’s (formerly Twitter) page.
On this past Monday’s episode of “The View,” it felt like the hosts had been reached out to, as I learned later, after expressing our thoughts during the show. Their attorney reportedly got in touch with them following our on-air conversation.
In a brief segment, Griffin read a statement directly into the camera.
In our previous conversation, we mentioned Anna Delvey, the convicted fraudster, who is set to appear on ‘Dancing With the Stars’. We questioned whether it was fair for her to be on the show given that opportunities like this are seldom granted to other convicted criminals and immigrants seeking asylum. Following our discussion, we received a statement from Ms. Delvey’s lawyer, who took issue with our comment that she ‘still owes people money’. He argued that this statement is misleading, suggesting she still needs to pay restitution to her fraud victims. However, he presented a document from the Office of Victim Services, which he claims shows that all of Ms. Delvey’s restitution has been paid in full and that all her victims have been adequately compensated.
Later on, Griffin expressed his excitement, “Tomorrow night, we’ll be kicking off the latest season of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ live on ABC. Can’t wait!
As a gamer, I’d rephrase that statement like this:
