‘Peaky Blinders’ Creator Steven Knight Talks “Mindblowing” Cast of New Film, ‘House of Guinness,’ Becoming Studio Mogul

As a gamer with a keen eye for cinema, I find myself utterly captivated by the impending cinematic marvel that is Steven Knight‘s adaptation of the iconic Netflix series, Peaky Blinders. Having grown up immersed in the gritty underbelly of Birmingham, much like Tommy Shelby himself, this tale of power, loyalty, and survival resonates deeply with me.

Steven Knight considers the cast assembled for his television adaptation of the popular Netflix series “Peaky Blinders,” with Cillian Murphy portraying the Birmingham gang leader Tommy Shelby, to be absolutely stunning or awe-inspiring.

The movie is based on a six-season TV series that received widespread praise upon its release on the streaming service. The main cast includes Oscar winner Murphy, Paul Anderson, Helen McCrory, Tom Hardy, and Joe Cole. For the upcoming film, Barry Keoghan from “Saltburn” and Rebecca Ferguson, known for her role in “Dune”, have been confirmed to join the cast and production is set to begin soon.

Knight has shared that Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan are part of an upcoming project he’s working on. He hinted at more announcements to come. During a chat with Katie Razzall at The Royal Television Society’s London Convention, Knight mentioned that he originally planned to write ‘Peaky Blinders’ as a novel. While keeping details about the new project under wraps, Knight excitedly shared that it is set during World War II and promises to be excellent.

Angelina Jolie’s recent movie, directed by Pablo Larraín and titled Maria, has Knight expressing his honest feelings about perceiving HBO’s Game of Thrones series as a children’s show due to his 10-year-old son frequently requesting the DVD collection.

As a gamer, I found myself taken aback when a producer suggested bringing in Aiden Gillen, famous for his role as Petyr Baelish from Game of Thrones, into the Peaky Blinders gang back in 2017. “I’d seen some dragon footage,” he mentioned. “The producer asked, ‘How about the brothel owner?’ I replied, ‘I thought this was a children’s series?’

He mentioned regarding the forthcoming “Guinness House” series: “It centers around the Guinness family and the extraordinary individuals who were part of that family, starting from 1968. It boasts an outstanding ensemble cast.

In his hometown Birmingham, the Knight has constructed a sprawling film and TV production facility known as Digbeth Locale, set to debut this year. He expressed his intention to create an environment offering “comfort” for everyone associated with it.

He explained: “Those involved in the industry understand that manufacturing requires tough, extended hours. It’s demanding work. Our goal is to create an atmosphere where workers recognize this reality but still have time for relaxation. They can enjoy comfort and not have to drive at odd hours, like 2 am. Consequently, everything will be within the campus, providing a creative environment suitable for both large and small productions.

As a gamer, I’d say: “Check out this magnificent Victorian structure, abandoned for three decades. Standing there amidst the overgrown blackberry bushes, the grand rotunda stirs something within me – a spark of potential. This forgotten shed with columns might be falling apart and leaking, but to us in this industry, it’s like striking gold!

Is Knight concerned that television is primarily controlled by those who have greater advantages? “I come from a working-class background, yet it’s not something I need to constantly advertise. If you fail to portray the stories of 70% of the nation’s population, you’re overlooking at least 70% of the country. If you can hail a taxi in London… I’m confident that the driver’s tale would be more captivating than that of the passenger. Not because it’s kinder but because it makes for a better story, and that’s what writers should aim to do.
