Agatha All Along Star Doesn't Care About MCU, Wants to Fight Ryan Reynolds

As a lifelong theater enthusiast who has graced the stages of Broadway for decades, I must admit that my knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is somewhat limited. However, when presented with the opportunity to join the MCU as a witch or a villain, one does not simply refuse!

In the upcoming Disney+ series “Agatha All Along,” starring Patti LuPone, confesses that she remains unfamiliar with the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The show features Kathryn Hahn reprising her antagonistic character from WandaVision, which previously starred Elizabeth Olsen. Besides Hahn, “Agatha All Along” introduces a fresh set of characters, among them being LuPone’s MCU debut. Despite the potential significance of this series within the MCU, the universe itself does not pique LuPone’s interest in the slightest.

At the premiere of the new Disney+ series on the “purple” carpet, the Broadway icon playfully chatted with Variety. LuPone confessed that she hasn’t watched any Avengers films but did catch a few episodes of WandaVision prior to filming Agatha All Along. She went on to express her desire to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even if she didn’t fully grasp it, as a witch or a villain. Check out the video below:

Patti LuPone becomes part of the ensemble in “Agatha All Along“, taking on the role of Lilia Calderu. Although specific details about her character’s past are yet to be revealed, comic enthusiasts will recognize that Calderu is a 450-year-old witch. As for Lilia’s relationship with Agatha, it remains unclear at this point; however, given Agatha’s standing, it seems more likely to be adversarial rather than amicable.

With each passing moment bringing us closer to the highly-anticipated premiere, an increasing number of sneak peeks and images are making their rounds. So far, it’s been confirmed that “Agatha All Along” will pay tribute to some classic horror movies while incorporating a musical performance titled ‘The Ballad of the Witches Road’. In a recent behind-the-scenes featurette, the creators revealed that nearly every effect used was created practically on set. As we count down the final hours until the premiere episodes, additional scenes are being unveiled. Catch a glimpse of one such scene below, shared by user “Scarlet Witch Updates”.

Discussing the Scarlet Witch, Elizabeth Olsen recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to discuss her upcoming movie, His Three Daughters. During their conversation, there was speculation about the possibility of her character making a comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), despite seemingly dying at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Olsen expressed her enjoyment working on the role and expressed a desire for a chance to reprise it, preferably with a more intelligent approach from the writers to bring Wanda Maximoff back in an interesting manner. In simpler terms, she’s hoping for something more creative than the casual multiverse cameos that fans are accustomed to, such as the hero appearances in this summer’s blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine.

With Angela Lupone joining an MCU series, there’s a chance she might get involved in more projects. As the first spin-off from the popular “WandaVision” hits Disney+ and Marvel, “Agatha All Along” is ushering in a new chapter for both platforms. Though some viewers had modest expectations, this series is garnering acclaim as initial reviews roll in. An unexpected spin-off, “Agatha All Along” is proving to be quite the little show that could. Overcoming pandemic obstacles and Hollywood strikes is an achievement on its own. But if it becomes a success – something Marvel could benefit from – this project might attract both old and new Marvel fans.

Agatha All Along premieres Wednesday, September 18th 9:00 pm EST on Disney+.
