‘I Can Not Believe They Let Me Get Away With That’: Agatha All Along’s Showrunner Tells Us The Episode 1 Moment That She Kept Expecting To Get Pulled

As a longtime Marvel fan with a soft spot for quirky characters and unexpected twists, I have to say that Agatha All Along has quickly become one of my favorite additions to the MCU. The show’s blend of humor, drama, and a touch of grittiness (courtesy of Agatha’s colorful language) is a refreshing departure from the usual superhero fare we’re used to seeing.

In their last encounter, Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), a Marvel character, was seen clashing with Wanda Maximoff, aka The Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), over controlling the hearts of Westview’s residents in the hit Disney+ show WandaVision. However, Wanda emerged victorious and forced Agatha into an existence within Westview, where she was trapped in a sequence of television-themed dreams. The first two episodes of the spinoff series Agatha All Along revealed this predicament, with Agatha embarking on a quest for the mythical Witches’ Road, hoping to reclaim her magical abilities.

In the debut episode of Agatha All Along, it takes on a tone similar to an episode from Kate Winslet’s intense crime drama, Mare of Easttown. The storyline features Agatha as a rough-around-the-edges detective, summoned to investigate a murder in the forest. Throughout the episode, we witness Agatha’s journey to the police station and her confrontations with her superior officer. In one such altercation, Agatha expresses her frustration by telling the chief something along the lines of “take a hike.” On Disney+.

In a more straightforward rephrase, you could say: During my interview with the cast and team of Agatha All Along, I couldn’t help but bring up a particular line that stood out to me. To my astonishment, showrunner Jac Schaeffer mentioned that this line was slated for removal throughout production. Schaeffer shared this detail with TopMob.

It’s hard for me to believe that they allowed me to keep that joke. I wrote it, and it made me laugh so much that I thought for sure it would be taken away. But when Brad Winderbaum read it and loved it, I was overjoyed. I remember clearly thinking, “I get to keep this?” And he said, “Sure, as long as no one objects.” And amazingly, no one ever did object. (laughs)

Executive producer Brad Winderbaum also added his thoughts on the line, highlighting its impact on the show Agatha All Along, as he shared with TopMob.

Hey there! As a fellow enthusiast, I can’t help but notice the Marvel magic that’s been woven into your collection. Marvel, you know, is like a kaleidoscope of storytelling – each piece offers a unique perspective yet they all harmoniously contribute to this grand tapestry. (Laughs!) Sure, we’re streaming on Disney Plus now, but the essence of Marvel remains undiluted.

To date, “Agatha All Along” has been presenting a unique facet of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that fans have been appreciating. Social media platforms are buzzing with the captivating dynamic between Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza, and numerous fans praise the inclusion of Joe Locke as Teen.

Excitingly, the story of Agatha All Along is far from over! If you’re enjoying the series so far, there will be new episodes every week for you to look forward to, as we continue our journey through this season and approach the upcoming Marvel project – the movie Captain America: Brave New World, set to hit theaters in February 2025.
