Questlove Set to Direct Earth, Wind & Fire Documentary

As a gamer with over three decades of musical history under my belt, I can hardly contain my excitement for this upcoming Earth, Wind & Fire documentary! Growing up in the 70s and 80s, their music was a constant soundtrack to my life, filling our living room during family gatherings and providing the perfect rhythm for those late-night dance sessions with friends.

21st night day of September, indeed.

Ahmad “Questlove” Nemeth has agreed to take up the director’s role for an upcoming Earth, Wind & Fire documentary. This film will delve into the long-lasting influence, cultural significance, and timeless collection of music that this legendary band has left behind.

In the project, a renowned director who has won Grammys and Oscars will be granted unique rights to delve into the band’s vast collection of images, sounds, and documents, in addition to having the collaboration of Maurice White’s estate and the band themselves, as stated in a press statement.

As a gamer immersed in this powerful game, I’ve been dipped in its vibrant Afrocentric river of wisdom. Through this experience, I’ve gained knowledge about it, about us, but most significantly, I’ve learned and rediscovered myself along the way. I’m thrilled to be involved in the journey of preserving its heartwarming yet raw tale of Soul, Identity, and Struggle.

Members of the Earth, Wind & Fire band, including Philip Bailey, Verdine White, and Ralph Johnson, expressed excitement about an upcoming exploration of their group, stating that they’re thrilled to have Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson serving as the director for the documentary.

The director of “Summer of Soul” is not only responsible for its production, but will do so collaboratively with Dave Sirulnick and Samantha Grogin from RadicalMedia, KB White from Broken Halo Entertainment (son of the late band leader Maurice White), and Arron Saxe from Kinfolk Management + Media. Furthermore, Sony Music Vision is associated with the project, while FIFTH SEASON finances it and will manage its sales, with WME handling distribution.

For decades, Earth, Wind & Fire’s influence has been central to global popular culture. We are overjoyed to be working together for the fourth time with the talented Questlove, who is an ideal choice to narrate this definitive tale. Furthermore, we are collaborating with the exceptional teams at FIFTH SEASON, Two One Five, Broken Halo, and Kinfolk Management + Media. As stated by Sirulnick, president of entertainment at RadicalMedia, ‘We owe a great deal of gratitude to many,’ but this project would not be feasible without the trust and partnership of KB White and Arron Saxe, whom we hold in high esteem.’

Over a span of several decades, this band has achieved tremendous success both critically and financially, earning them a spot among the most celebrated pop groups ever. They have sold over 90 million records, with every one of their last eleven albums achieving gold or platinum status. To add to their accolades, they’ve won six Grammy Awards. Some of their biggest hits include “September,” “Reasons,” and “Shining Star.

Zarah Zohlman and Shawn Gee from Two One Five Entertainment, a company established by Questlove and bandmate Black Thought from The Roots, are set to take on the role of executive producers. Additionally, Jon Kamen from RadicalMedia, Cheo Hodari Coker, and Amos Newman will also serve as executive producers for this project.
