As a gamer with a deep-rooted love for movies and music, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about Johnny Depp’s return to Italy! The man is not just an actor, but a true artist who embodies versatility and passion in everything he does. His journey, marked by highs and lows, is a testament to the resilience of creativity and the power of talent.
Johnny Depp is heading back to Italy. Following his last performance with his band Hollywood Vampires (which includes Alice Cooper and Joe Perry from Aerosmith) at the Lucca Summer Festival in 2018, he will receive a lifetime achievement award at the 2024 Rome Film Fest, held from October 16 to 27.
Johnny Depp’s upcoming directorial venture, titled “Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness“, is set to make its debut at the festival as well. This film delves into the tumultuous life of artist Amedeo Modigliani during his time in 1916 Paris. Featuring Riccardo Scamarcio, Al Pacino, and Antonia Desplat, the movie will be shown in Rome after its world premiere at the San Sebastián Film Festival.
The Rome honor arrives as Depp seeks closure following his legal disputes with ex-spouse Amber Heard. Although his Hollywood career hasn’t completely rebounded from the adverse publicity stemming from their divorce, he remains well-liked globally and is still welcomed by European filmmakers. In 2023, he kicked off the Cannes Film Festival with “Jeanne du Barry,” directed by French filmmaker Maïwenn.
Notable figures gracing Rome Fest’s 19th installment are Viggo Mortensen and Francis Ford Coppola, who will be honored in a special ceremony. Mortensen is scheduled to debut his western movie titled “The Dead Don’t Hurt“, where he collaborates with actress Vicky Krieps. This film marks the second directorial venture for Mortensen, following the 2020 drama “Falling“, featuring Lance Henriksen. Coppola will showcase his long-awaited project “Megalopolis“, an epic tale about a tenacious architect (Adam Driver) aiming to reconstruct the fictional city of New Rome after a catastrophic event.
