As a dedicated follower and admirer of Twinkle Khanna, I must say her unique blend of wit, intelligence, and candor always leaves me in awe. Her latest column for The Times Of India was no exception. Her comparison of Hema Malini to the embodiment of clean water in India is not only clever but also reflects her deep respect for the actress-turned-politician’s commitment towards environmental issues.
Twinkle Khanna frequently connects with her audience through her humorous articles, recounting her own life stories. Lately, this writer-turned-actress playfully wished that Hema Malini, rather than Dimple Kapadia, was her mother.
In a recent article for The Times Of India, Twinkle Khanna shared a heartfelt memory: her water purifier’s dripping water brought back thoughts of actress-turned-politician Hema Malini, who, according to her, shows an unparalleled dedication to providing clean water in India.
As a lifestyle enthusiast who’s long advocated for water purifiers, I’ve recently taken a unique approach – dancing ballet on the banks of the Ganga. This isn’t just an artistic expression; it’s a call to action, urging everyone to preserve our rivers. Yet, I find myself pondering: will my message resonate with the people, or will this be another instance of showing them the water but not being able to make them drink?
Twinkle also shared with her mother, well-known actress Dimple Kapadia, a topic that bothered her. She lamented about the issue of littering in the streets. In her opinion, no matter how much resources are invested in improving infrastructure, it’s futile if we can’t prevent fellow Indians from defacing street corners with paan stains and causing harm due to religious disagreements.
As I put it, she admitted to possessing “symphony-like horns” within our community. At the same time, her mom ended the call, reminding me that the sound levels during Ganpati celebrations were no quieter than the very thing she was criticizing for being too loud.
She playfully mentioned in her closing remark: “This isn’t the first time I’ve wished Hema Malini was my mother instead. We could have long conversations about clean water, and I would even get a lifetime supply of free water purifiers as an added bonus.
Born to renowned actor Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, Twinkle is now a contentedly married wife to Akshay Kumar. After acting in films until 2001, her last appearance being Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega opposite Fardeen Khan, she shifted her focus towards writing. Throughout the years, she has written numerous books, with Mrs Funnybones serving as her debut work followed by The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad, Pyjamas Are Forgiving, and Welcome to Paradise.
Meanwhile, Hema Malini is also an elected MP from the Mathura Lok Sabha constituency.
