Disneyland Had Major Technical Difficulties This Morning And This Is What My Theme Park Nightmare Looks Like

As a seasoned gamer and frequent theme park visitor, I’ve always cherished the escapism that these magical lands offer, immersing myself in fantastical worlds while temporarily forgetting the stresses of reality. However, today at Disneyland, reality came knocking on my door in the form of an unexpected cash-only policy due to payment processing issues.

I enjoy theme parks because they’re built for pure amusement, allowing you to immerse yourself in imaginary realms and momentarily forget about reality. However, this escape can only be effective if the actual world stays out of sight. Regrettably, during my visit at Disneyland this morning, that wasn’t feasible as payment processing systems were malfunctioning across the entire resort, making it necessary to pay in cash for anything requiring monetary transactions.

Today, if you attempted to reserve a spot on one of Disneyland’s top rides using their app earlier, you encountered a message regretting that only cash transactions were being accepted. This change affected not only the Lightning Lane system but also closed down the mobile order service for food. As a result, visitors had to wait in line to purchase items, provided they carried enough cash with them.

The issue lies in the fact that by now, most large theme parks like Disneyland have effectively trained us to keep our money at home. These establishments have set up systems where apps linked to our credit cards are used for transactions, so if I were at Disneyland today, I’d be utterly bewildered because who carries cash these days?

It’s clear that Disneyland has encouraged this situation somewhat, as they prefer guests to use mobile ordering over traditional queues for quick service dining. Personally, I’ve found the ease of mobile ordering more appealing, even when it might not always be faster than waiting in line. The convenience is definitely worth it!

At Disneyland, they now provide a mobile shopping option for souvenirs. You can browse items, make payments using an app, and then present a Cast Member with a QR code as you exit the park. This method isn’t always quicker than approaching a cashier when there’s no queue, but it certainly beats waiting in line just to make a purchase.

In today’s world, it’s not uncommon for many people, including myself, to seldom use cash. With options like credit cards, mobile payments, and in-app transactions, we often find ourselves avoiding physical money. Even small vendors accept credit cards nowadays. Cash transactions seem to be a relic of the past, that is, until you open an app and encounter this message.

I’d be utterly bewildered if I found myself in Disneyland, unable to buy my beloved breakfast chimichanga or any of my favorite dishes. In such a situation, if I realized I needed cash while already in the park, I’d be at a loss as to how to handle it.

Indeed, this development was detrimental to Disneyland as well, given its heavy dependence on transactional systems. In essence, every second people were unable to make purchases, the park was losing money. Those aiming to acquire the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass within the park found themselves in a predicament, as it appears there’s no option for cash transactions if you prefer that method.

As a gamer (or park enthusiast), I’ve encountered my fair share of tech-related hiccups when trying to sign up for events or buy tickets at Disney Parks. From marathon registrations to After Hours events, the virtual queue systems can sometimes be more challenging than completing the hardest levels in a game! It seems like this recent issue with the payment system might not have been a Disneyland technical problem per se, but it’s just another example of the occasional tech-Disneyland conflicts. Here’s hoping they fix whatever went wrong to ensure a smoother experience for all of us park-goers in the future!
