Marvel Fans Think Thunderbolts Will Answer The Big Mystery Surrounding Avengers Tower, And I’m Surprised By The Reveal

As a seasoned gamer and Marvel fanatic who has spent countless hours immersed in the intricate narratives of the MCU, I must say that the revelation about Avengers Tower in Thunderbolts has sent my heart racing with excitement! The life experience of having seen every single Marvel movie multiple times, coupled with the endless debate about the fate of our beloved superheroes, has led me to this moment where I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

The ownership of Avengers Tower has long been a topic of discussion within a particular segment of Marvel Studios fans, and during a recent interview at the Deadpool and Wolverine press day, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige hinted that the answer would soon be unveiled. Although I wouldn’t have predicted it, it looks like we might find out who (or what) purchased Avengers Tower in next summer’s Marvel film, Thunderbolts. With the release of the full trailer for Thunderbolts, fans speculate that a scene in the movie features Valentina (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus) gathering with the team in an area resembling the former open-air bar/lounge at Avengers Tower.

To my understanding, it seems like this will be turning into a film based on the Dark Avengers. The asterisk in the title likely signifies that aspect.

Let’s dig into the theory.

That’s Avengers Tower, Right?

The picture at the top seems to be a favorite among fans, who believe it shows a remodeled Avengers Tower. The Manhattan skyline can be seen in the backdrop. The extensive floor-to-ceiling windows and bar on the left side of the image are striking features. If you revisit scenes from “The Avengers” or even the well-known hammer scene in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” you might agree with Valentina that she has established her base within the tower that was initially Tony Stark’s, then served as the main headquarters for Earth’s strongest heroes before they vacated it in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Jon Favreau’s character, Happy Hogan, parted ways with the tower when the Avengers shifted to a bigger campus in New York’s outskirts. This site was destroyed during the climactic battle against Thanos. Given that the Avengers initiative has been dormant since Tony Stark’s self-sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame, I am convinced they will return, perhaps in a significant new form. To begin with, we caught a sneak peek of Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) inviting Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) to potentially form a Young Avengers team. Moreover, we have two upcoming Avengers movies titled Doomsday and Secret Wars to anticipate.

But that’s not what I think is happening here.

I Think The Asterisk In The Thunderbolts Title Will Change This To ‘Dark Avengers’

And above, I think, is your first look at the official Dark Avengers roster. In the comics, the Dark Avengers are formed by Norman Osborn. They are a team of super-powered villains (Bullseye, Venom, etc) who all have natural Avengers counterparts. That gets a little confusing here, as Yelena is a natural Black Widow, but John Walker, Bucky, and Red Guardian all seem like the “Evil” Captain America. Then there’s Taskmaster, who basically can mimic the fighting styles of any hero. So, you know, this isn’t a simple A to B translation.

It appears that Valentina’s recruitment of the Thunderbolts suggests Marvel may be preparing for either a Dark Avengers or Secret Avengers team, coinciding with Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (played by Harrison Ford) asking Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) to aid in reassembling the Avengers in Captain America: Brave New World. In the MCU of 2025, global politics are a significant focus.

There Are Other Avengers Connections In The Trailer

Have you all taken notice of this scene? It seems doubtful that this is the Avengers Tower; instead, it appears to be a Washington D.C. fundraiser attended by Valentina (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan). Nevertheless, banners celebrating “The Battle of New York” are present, marking the first instance when the Avengers were compelled to unite. Remnants of that event can also be seen, such as Loki’s scepter. The scene is intentionally designed to provoke thoughts about The Avengers and their selfless acts to safeguard us.

And then Val is going to put together a different roster, for an alternate mission.

I’m really looking forward to the Thunderbolts movie, and the trailer’s sneak peek at interactions between Florence Pugh and David Harbour has me even more excited! The action seems promising, but what truly captivates me is the potential for these characters to showcase their unique personalities. I’m especially keen on Lewis Pullman’s character, Sentinel, as he appears to be a wild card that could really shine in the film.

In the year 2025, “Thunderbolts” will be the second Marvel film to hit theaters, following “Captain America: Brave New World”, and preceding “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”. As the release date approaches, we’ll share more details about the movie.
