Who Is Agatha All Along's Rio Vidal? The Wildest Theory About Aubrey Plaza's Character Makes More Sense To Me After Deadpool And Wolverine

As a die-hard Marvel fan who has followed the MCU for over two decades, I can understand the excitement surrounding the possibility of Mephisto or Death being introduced into the franchise through Rio Vidal. However, as someone who’s been burned by false promises before (looking at you, Ralph Bohner), I find it hard to fully embrace these theories just yet.

Audience members are discovering that they may have underestimated their fascination with the antagonist from WandaVision, as more and more people tune into Agatha All Along. One reason for the Marvel series’ success could be the captivating performance by Aubrey Plaza, whose character, Rio Vidal, remains enigmatic in the initial episodes. There’s been a flurry of fan speculation regarding the role that Plaza’s character might truly embody, and I believe it fits well with the Deadpool & Wolverine narrative.

As a dedicated fan, it’s a pity for fellow enthusiasts who haven’t yet streamed “Agatha All Along” on Disney+, as they might be overlooking one of the most impactful villain unveilings in Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) history. Although I eagerly anticipate Aubrey Plaza portraying a villain in future Marvel productions, I can envision several other compelling candidates for the role. Here’s the buzz surrounding her character and why she could be the game-changing revelation we’ve all been waiting for.

I Love The Theories That Rio Vidal Is Actually The Shadow King

It saddens me greatly that Aubrey Plaza’s previous Marvel role often goes unnoticed by many. I was a big fan of Noah Hawley’s Legion, and though it never secured Patrick Stewart for Professor X, it did have Plaza portraying a version of the renowned Marvel villain The Shadow King, which I found quite intriguing.

Initially, Plaza portrayed Lenny Busker, David’s friend from the psychiatric ward, disguised as someone else, before Negahban officially appeared as the Shadow King in the show. Her debut scene in Agatha All Along led me to believe she was playing the Shadow King once more, so convincingly that if she isn’t this character, I can only assume Marvel asked her to reprise that performance for this series.

In the X-Men lore, The Shadow King, known also as Amahl Farouk, was among the initial villains encountered by Professor X. He originated prior to human civilization and possesses abilities in the spiritual realm. His primary objective is to seize control of psychics’ and telepaths’ minds to amplify his global influence.

Agatha Harkness might not be the strongest telepath in the Marvel universe yet, but she’s learning. It seems the villain Shadow King could be trying to enter our world (616 reality) by controlling her first and then moving on to more powerful psychics when the chance arises. This idea is fascinating to me, and it’s a clever callback to an older Marvel series. If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend giving it a look, especially if you have a Hulu subscription.

As the X-Men gradually join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it’s thrilling to imagine one of their formidable adversaries emerging and growing in influence before more mutants become prominent on Earth-616. In essence, I’m painting a picture of my desired evolution for the Marvel universe, though it may not align with reality yet. The Shadow King, given his power, could potentially defeat Agatha, and I eagerly anticipate his return in future stories.

I Can Understand Why People Think She’s Blackheart

It seems that many viewers of Agatha All Along have jumped to the conclusion that Rio Vidal could be the villain Blackheart because the final member of the coven symbolizes a “black heart.” However, while Blackheart is indeed a powerful character with extensive magical abilities in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the hint presented in the show appears to be too obvious for the usual subtlety of the MCU. Moreover, unless Ghost Rider enters the MCU, it’s questionable if we need Blackheart at this time.

I Empathize With Those Keeping Hopes For Mephisto Alive

The idea that Rio Vidal might be Mephisto, a blend of humor and speculation, could cause quite a stir in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, after the twist in WandaVision, I find it hard to believe Mephisto will appear as a villain connected to Wanda Maximoff again. While others may still hope for this, I’m not convinced.

Additionally, let me mention a gossip from last year suggesting Sacha Baron Cohen might portray Mephisto in the upcoming Ironheart series. Frankly, I find this rumor questionable as well, but considering the appeal of the character, it’s not surprising that fans continue to speculate he’ll join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Is Rio Vidal Actually Death?

It’s been noted several times that the name Rio signifies “river” in Spanish, while Vidal is Latin for “life.” When we envision the concept of the “river of life,” the river that most resonates is the River Styx from Greek mythology, which serves as a boundary between the realms of the living and the deceased. Charon, who operates as a ferryman on this river, is often compared to the personification of Death.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Death is considered as a significant cosmic figure, and there were initial plans to introduce her into the series earlier than we saw. However, the Russo brothers opted not to include her in Avengers: Infinity War, even though she plays a key role in the comics. It’s possible that Death may appear more frequently than Blackheart or Mephisto in Agatha All Along, but I’m still leaning towards the Shadow King as the likely candidate at this point.

I Hope This Isn’t Another Ralph Bohner Situation

In essence, I’m fine with Rio Vidal turning out however he does, as long as it doesn’t resemble the Ralph Bohner scenario. For those unaware, the Ralph Bohner situation pertains to a misleading build-up in the MCU about Evan Peters’ character in WandaVision, which ultimately had little impact on the storyline.

It’s hard not to smile when I recall the overconfidence of the MCU creators in the past. After the success of Avengers: Endgame, it felt like the golden age would continue forever. Why not poke fun at fans who have become so accustomed to surprise character appearances? Isn’t it entertaining to shake things up and break the mold sometimes?

It’s not wise to disappoint people now, as there’s a feeling among the public that Marvel has made some missteps recently. Repeating past mistakes could lead some fans to lose interest in Marvel entirely, and it seems that a few have already done so.

Every Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. ET, I’m diving into the latest episodes of Agatha All Along streaming on Disney+! Don’t miss out on jumping in from the beginning; this show is kicking things off with a bang!
