Jean Smart Can’t Get a Word in for ‘SNL’ 50th Season Premiere Promo

As a gamer who has grown up with Saturday Night Live (SNL) as a constant in my life, I can hardly contain my excitement for the show’s 50th season! With Jean Smart hosting the premiere this weekend and Jelly Roll providing the musical entertainment, it’s going to be an unforgettable night.

As I dive headfirst into the whirlwind of Saturday Night Live’s season 50 premiere promo, I find myself grappling for a chance to chime in amidst a flood of fond memories from the early days of the show. It’s like trying to keep up with a fast-paced game of catch, only this time, the ball is my voice and the players are the iconic moments of Saturday Night Live’s past.

Celebrating 50 years of hosting, laughter, and memories,” the star of Hacks remarks in a promotional video, set to air this Saturday as she takes on the role of host. Snippets from earlier seasons of the show are spliced in, showcasing comedians such as Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin, among others.

As the trailer unfolds, Smart queries, “Are you really planning to display a scene from each season to silence me?” Her words start to break down, with more recollections interjecting right in the middle of her sentences and even her speech.

“Can we make this a little bit more about me?” she quips.

On October 5th, comedy artist Nate Bargatze is set to return as host for a second time, accompanied by musical guest Coldplay. Meanwhile, on an earlier date, the show will welcome newcomers Smart and Jelly Roll, who will both make their debut appearances as musical guests.

On October 12, Ariana Grande and Stevie Nicks are scheduled to appear, followed by Michael Keaton and Billie Eilish on October 19. John Mulaney will be the host on November 2, with Chappell Roan as the musical guest.

Apart from its usual Saturday broadcasts at 11:30 PM Eastern Time and 8:30 PM Pacific Time on NBC, SNL will commemorate fifty years on the air with a prime-time special slated for February 2025.

For the upcoming Season 50, three fresh faces – Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, and Jane Wickline – will be added to the cast, joining the returning members. Meanwhile, Marcello Hernandez, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker have been promoted to the main cast, having served as featured players in the previous season. Unfortunately, Punkie Johnson, Molly Kearney, and Chloe Troast parted ways with the show between seasons.
