Chunky Panday Birthday: When Housefull 5 actor took 50,000 USD from South African store owner to bring Salman Khan at his outlet

As a dedicated follower of Bollywood, I find Chunky Panday to be an absolute gem, not just for his comic timing on-screen, but also for the tales from his real life that are as entertaining as his films. The story about charging a store owner to bring Salman Khan without the actor knowing it is a classic example of Chunky’s unique charm and charisma.

Today marks the birthday of Bollywood actor Chunky Panday, who has been adored by fans for decades. Not only did he bring laughter to our screens, but his off-screen antics are just as amusing! In a humorous turn of events, this man once playfully charged a store owner for bringing Salman Khan to their shop, without the actor being aware of it.

During an earlier conversation with Lehren, Chunky shared a story about a time when he was working on a show in South Africa alongside Salman Khan. He mentioned that he offered to get Salman some free jeans and took him to a particular store. Chunky, who is now 62, reminisced, “I suggested we go shopping, I would give you free jeans. So, we went shopping at a mall and gave him the jeans and shoes for free. It was later discovered that I had borrowed $50,000 from a shopkeeper to bring Salman there.

Ah, let me share a thrilling tale, my friends! You see, ol’ Shopkeeper did, indeed, slide $50,000 my way, but here’s the twist: it was all part of the grand scheme to have Salman step foot in his store! Yes, you heard that right. I was more than just a simple participant; I was the key element in this intriguing sponsorship deal. And oh, what a tale it makes for!

In the late ’80s and throughout the ’90s, Chunky Panday established himself as a prominent actor in Bollywood, starting with his debut in the multi-star film “Aag Hi Aag” in 1987. He delivered notable performances in movies such as “Aankhen,” “Khatron Ke Khiladi,” “Qayamat: City Under Threat,” and “Begum Jaan.” However, it was his breakout role in the film “Tezaab” opposite Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor that earned him widespread acclaim.

In an earlier interview with TVF, Chunky shared stories about his hardships during the initial phase of his career. He explained that there were no casting directors or digital platforms back then, so actors had to stand in long lines outside producers’ offices. “Those times weren’t easy,” he said, “but they were exciting. I was both a part-time street hustler and car dealer, which allowed me to drive various cars around town. Each day, I visited different producers’ offices while driving those cars.

Panday will be next seen in Akshay Kumar-led Housefull 5 which is currently on floors.
