Insider: Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Is A “Complete Bugged Mess Right Now”

As a long-time fan of the Assassin’s Creed series, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon hearing about the latest developments with Shadows. On one hand, I understand the need for polish and refinement to deliver a top-notch gaming experience. However, as someone who has been burned by delays in the past, I can’t help but wonder if this delay is more indicative of underlying issues within the game itself.

Story Highlights

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a new Assassin’s Creed game that was initially releasing in November 2024.
  • Ubisoft has decided to delay the game’s launch into 2025, citing more polish requirements as the reason.
  • An insider has revealed that the actual reason for the delay is that Shadows is a hot mess right now.

The game titled Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the next major installment of the Assassin’s Creed series, following Mirage. This game has a unique dual-protagonist system, switching between characters named Naoe and Yasuke. Just recently, Ubisoft announced that they are pushing back the release date for this action-adventure RPG from November 12, 2024, to some point in 2025.

This expansion for the franchise is quite expansive, offering a deeply immersive journey seen from the perspectives of two extraordinary characters. However, we understand that additional time is necessary to perfect and enhance certain aspects, focusing more on refining key elements.

Consequently, we’ve chosen to move the release date to February 14, 2025. On this day, you’ll find our game available across multiple platforms like Steam from the get-go. Furthermore, any existing preorders will be refunded and new ones will come with the first expansion package for free.

It’s unfortunate that we have to share this news, which may be disheartening for those eagerly anticipating an Assassin’s Creed game set in Feudal Japan. However, we genuinely feel that this decision is beneficial for the game itself and will enhance your playing experience as a whole.

However, here’s an interesting point: As PHBrazil reports, a reliable source within Ubisoft claims that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is delayed due to being in disarray at the moment, and they can’t sugarcoat it for the time being. (If you understand Portuguese, you can skip to 3:37.)

Furthermore, the source asserts that Ubisoft’s choice to postpone Shadows and opt for a more polished release instead might stem from the recent setback experienced with Star Wars Outlaws—a high-profile project that fell short of the company’s hopes.

According to a recent update from Ubisoft, while Star Wars Outlaws received strong reviews (Metacritic 76) and high user scores (3.9/5) suggesting an engaging and authentic Star Wars experience across multiple platforms, its initial sales were disappointingly lower than anticipated.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Might Be Headed Toward Monetization Hell

Comprising combat gameplay for graphics — although I do agree it could be a bit too soon to make a firm statement like that — certain instances have made people lose faith in Assassin’s Creed Shadows i.e. possible live service elements and questionable pricing models.

The movie “Shadows” is set to be released on February 14, 2025. Interestingly, the decision to postpone its release was made just a day after the unveiling of “Ghost of Yotei”.
