When Saif Ali Khan was asked to make a choice between his 'first film' and his girlfriend

As a lifestyle expert, I admire Saif Ali Khan’s journey in the world of entertainment, which has been marked by resilience and integrity. Despite his privileged background, he faced challenges that many aspiring actors would relate to – such as the moral dilemma he encountered early in his career when he was asked to choose between his debut film and his girlfriend.

Saif Ali Khan is the child of renowned actress Sharmila Tagore and cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Like his mother, he decided to pursue a career in acting. Despite coming from a high-profile family, people might think it was simple for him to break into the entertainment world. However, Saif, known for his role in “Devara,” has shared that he was faced with a difficult decision between his potential debut film and his girlfriend at one point.

Prior to the debut of his 1999 movie Kachche Dhaage, Saif Ali Khan was asked if he faced less hardship compared to others when starting his acting career. In response, the actor pointed out that some people view hailing auto rickshaws and traveling around in search of opportunities as a type of struggle.

Speaking with Wild Films India, he shared an anecdote from his past, noting that despite facing challenges similar to others, his were unique. Specifically, he recounted being dismissed from his initial movie project due to the director’s ultimatum: “Either leave your girlfriend or participate in the film.” He emphasized that this was a matter of personal ethics for him.

He wondered what the term for “moral choice” is in Hindi, and when informed that he found himself in a ‘dilemma of duty’ or ‘dharma sankat’, Saif initially thought it sounded overly dramatic, but eventually acknowledged that it mirrored his own predicament.

Besides this, the actor was also questioned about why he took more time to achieve success compared to his parents, who found success earlier. Saif openly acknowledged that he didn’t have an explanation for this.

He mentioned that everyone has their own journey, and he is in a happy place and satisfied with his position in the industry. Expressing gratitude to the almighty, the Adipurush actor further hoped to be more successful in the coming years.

Of course, after putting in tremendous effort, it’s no surprise that Saif has made a unique space for himself and has garnered a large group of dedicated fans.

On the professional side, the actor is currently basking in the success of his first South film release, Devara: Part 1, which stars Janhvi Kapoor and Jr NTR. In addition, he has Race 4 lined up, where he will be working alongside Sidharth Malhotra. TopMob previously shared that the movie is set to start production in the early months of 2025.
