In a new development, Meryl Streep has added another notable TV role to her extensive repertoire with “The Corrections.” Recently, she appeared in Seasons 3 and 4 of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” and starred in HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” “Extrapolations,” and “Angels in America.” Published in 2001, Jonathan Franzen’s acclaimed novel won the National Book Award that year and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 2002. The narrative revolves around an elderly woman from the Midwest who desperately tries to connect with her three grown children as their father’s health deteriorates, with Streep poised to embody the family’s matriarch.

Previously, attempts have been made to transform this book into a movie or TV show, as Variety states; however, a film based on it was never produced earlier. Initially, HBO filmed a pilot in 2011 starring Chris Cooper, Dianne Wiest, Ewan McGregor, and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Despite this, they decided not to proceed with the series. After Paramount TV Studios abandoned their project in August, CBS Studios took over instead.

At the moment, “The Corrections” series doesn’t have any associated streaming service or network. However, it’s soon going to be proposed to potential buyers. This upcoming TV adaptation will mark Jonathan Franzen’s first foray into television writing, and he will take up an executive producer role in the series. A representative from CBS Studios has confirmed that the project is still in its initial stages, with no definite release date set yet.

The Corrections, hailed as one of the most significant novels of the 21st century, was once a subject of controversy between Franzen and Oprah Winfrey. This narrative focuses on the lives and family journey of Enid and Alfred Lambert as they gather for what may be their final Christmas celebration together. Enid seeks contentment, while Alfred battles the challenges of Parkinson’s disease and dementia. Meanwhile, their children are burdened by their own personal issues.
