Perrotin to Open London Gallery in 2025

As a connoisseur of contemporary art, I cannot help but feel a sense of excitement and nostalgia upon hearing about Perrotin‘s impending arrival in London. With its rich history and vibrant cultural scene, it seems only fitting that this esteemed gallery should make its home in the heart of the city.

It’s somewhat unexpected that, given London’s rich cultural significance, Perrotin hasn’t established a permanent base on the English side of the Channel, adjacent to its main location in Paris. However, this will soon be rectified as the esteemed art gallery has announced plans to open a branch in London, specifically in the prestigious Mayfair district, in 2025.

Perrotin London will move into a revamped location within Claridge’s, the iconic Art Deco hotel that has been graced by numerous royals and celebrities throughout the centuries. Notable figures such as Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn, Mick Jagger, and Kate Moss are among those who have visited this prestigious establishment.

Emmanuel Perrotin, the founder of the gallery, recognized the significance of establishing a presence in London, the British capital, and has been patiently seeking optimal conditions to establish his brand. He stated that the space opened in 2021 with an exhibition by Damien Hirst, which was organized by Claridge’s. Interestingly, Perrotin organized Damien Hirst’s first two commercial exhibitions in 1990 and 1991 at his Parisian gallery. Incidentally, the launch of Frieze Magazine took place at the opening of Hirst’s solo exhibition in 1991, with his work gracing the cover. It was a remarkable milestone in Perrotin’s career, and he eagerly anticipates completing this circle!

The space we are working on won’t open until next year, but Gallery Perrotin has plans to participate in the 2024 edition of Frieze Art Fair in London. They will showcase a solo exhibition by British sculptor Lynn Chadwick during this event. You can find more details about the fair’s schedule here.
