In a recent chat with Bollywood Thikhana, Mukesh Khanna reminisced about the early days of his career when he was often compared to Amitabh Bachchan. Khanna mentioned how Mithun Chakraborty was called ‘Amitabh Bachchan of the poor’ by the media. The Shaktimaan star confessed that if anyone had referred to him in such a manner, he would have asked them to be quiet about it.

Khanna recalled instances where folks commented on his likeness to Big B, suggesting that some of his movies didn’t succeed, he was criticized for imitating the megastar, potentially damaging his career. The actor from Hera Pheri added this perspective.

Mukesh Khanna admitted that Amitabh Bachchan claimed he was copying his acting style in films, and further stated that such comparisons couldn’t make him unsuccessful.

Who is the person that could potentially hinder my career progression? That wouldn’t be Amitabh Bachchan, as I had a friend tell me an amusing story about him. It seems they were both watching a movie at a drive-in theater, and my friend was on the hood of the car. When my ad appeared, Amitabh noticed it and said, ‘He’s copying me.’ Years later, some YouTube personalities used this quote in a humorous way, saying, ‘A single line from Amitabh Bachchan supposedly ruined my career.’ Khanna reminisced about this incident.

In terms of his career, Mukesh Khanna has been featured in films such as Saugandh, Dard-E-Dil, International Khiladi, Hera Pheri, Raja, Tahalka, among others.

In a different turn of events, Amitabh Bachchan recently appeared in Nag Ashwin’s Telugu production titled Kalki 2898 AD. At the age of 81, he is now set to feature in the upcoming film Vettaiyan, alongside Rajinikanth, which is expected to hit the screens this year.
