Rob Schneider Called 'Vile' After Controversial Post on NBA Legend's Death

As a long-time fan and supporter of Rob Schneider, I must admit that his latest social media post has left me scratching my head and shaking it in disappointment. While I have always appreciated his unique brand of humor and his ability to bring laughter into our lives, this recent incident has crossed the line from mere controversy to downright insensitivity.

Previously popular Saturday Night Live comedian Rob Schneider, known for stirring up controversy, has taken a potential step towards being cancelled. Recently, on the social media platform X (previously known as Twitter), Schneider shared a contentious repost: Although he didn’t explicitly endorse it, he re-shared a 2021 video featuring NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo advocating for vaccinations. Given his well-known skepticism about childhood vaccines, Schneider sparked controversy by resharing Mutombo’s initial pro-vaccination post following his death from brain cancer complications.

The star of critically panned comedies like Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and Grown Ups, and one of Adam Sandler’s best friends, posted the following: “Rest in Peace… I’m sure this is just (another) coincidence. But I took a pass on the Jab and I’m gonna not let anyone I know (and who will Listen) get it either!

It’s not surprising that Schneider faced a barrage of criticism following his post (as reported by Entertainment Weekly). User @secretsandlaws specifically brought up Sandler in their response: “@AdamSandler, I truly hope you’ll reconsider your friendship with someone who would say something so distasteful. You know Dikembe; this is appalling.” Users like @ArtCandee labeled Schneider as abhorrent and suggested that Mutombo’s passing was due to the brain cancer he was battling. The majority of responses from X were directed at Schneider’s apparent denial of cancer being the cause of death. In addition, the irony in his post hints at his suspicions about vaccinations against coronavirus leading to the death of the former NBA star.

Previously this year, Schneider encountered another issue when his own daughter, singer Elle King, shared insights about her upbringing, portraying Schneider as an absentee father figure. At that point, she expressed a desire to keep him out of her life. In response, Schneider issued the following statement:

Let me express something to my daughter, Elle: I want you to know how much I adore you, and if only I could have been the father for you in my 20s that you deserved – alas, I wasn’t able to be. I hope one day you can find it within your heart to forgive me for my failings. Know that my love for you is absolute and all-encompassing.

Rob Schneider, who used to be on SNL, has often found himself embroiled in disputes due to his conservative and radical views. Most notably, he publicly opposed child vaccination, which sparked debate and shifted his political leanings. Since then, numerous incidents have unfolded, and this year he declared his support for Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S. presidential race. It’s clear where he stands politically.

A few months back, Schneider found himself at the center of a social media uproar when he tweeted about the 2024 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, claiming that it was distasteful as it mirrored The Last Supper. Schneider went so far as to suggest that the event was openly glorifying Satan.

Indeed, it’s correct that others also shared criticisms about the event. However, Schneider appears to overstep boundaries on occasion. While everyone is entitled to their opinion – especially when considering celebrity status, influence, and the responsibility that comes with expressing oneself on social media – the post regarding Mutombo was extremely inappropriate. He won’t be retracting his words, but this kind of sensationalist speculation might lead him to lose a few followers.
