CTRL: Ananya Panday admits she has ‘imposter syndrome’; ‘When I see myself on a billboard…’

As a lifestyle expert, I find Ananya Panday‘s journey both inspiring and relatable. It is refreshing to see such a young actress openly discussing her struggles with imposter syndrome, which is something many of us have experienced at some point in our lives. Her humility and self-awareness are commendable, especially given her meteoric rise to fame in the glitzy world of Bollywood.

Actress Ananya Panday, who’s well-known in Bollywood, openly acknowledged experiencing Imposter Syndrome, even though she enjoys a high level of fame. In moments when she sees herself on posters or in her own movies, she tends to forget that it is indeed herself appearing on the screen.

During a recent conversation with News18 Showsha, Ananya Panday talked about her struggle dealing with fame and stardom. She revealed, “My imposter syndrome comes from something as simple as when someone says my name. During interviews and stuff, I feel like my name isn’t really mine, and it makes me feel like a third person. That pushes me to suddenly become like someone else.”

Whenever I spot myself on a giant poster or in one of my movies, it seems as though I’m observing someone else. It’s almost as if I become a spectator, losing sight of the fact that it’s really me appearing on the screen.

The 25-year-old actress also shared that she’s quite self-critical and frequently seeks confirmation from others, particularly on movie sets. She admitted that even when the director gives her the ‘okay,’ she isn’t satisfied with her performance, believing she could have done it better. If given the choice, she expressed that she would always redo everything because she sees opportunities for improvement in every take.

Was Ananya questioned more about whether the imposter syndrome arises due to the harsh criticism and judgment she experiences on social media? To this, she explains that it varies from day to day. On some days, she can brush off negative comments about herself, but other times, she may doubt her abilities based on what someone said about her on Instagram, such as feeling like she’s not good enough.

She noted that difficult shooting days, along with struggles with a particular shot, seem to affect her personally. Additionally, she highlighted the potential negative influence of social media on individuals.

In her latest roles in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan and Call Me Bae, Ananya’s acting has been warmly applauded by film enthusiasts. This positive reception, she shared, has significantly bolstered her confidence as an artist, causing her to feel content with the artistic decisions she’s made. “It’s a satisfying feeling,” she expressed.

Initially, some individuals expressed doubts about her decision to create a series and advised against taking on numerous OTT projects early in her career. At times, this uncertainty made her question whether her work would be appreciated. However, positive responses to her recent endeavors have given her confidence that she is making the right decisions.

In a more casual and straightforward manner, The winner of Student of the Year 2 found that collaborating with great people has been worthwhile. She continues to feel calm about her career path, trusting that her choices will eventually prove beneficial.

In terms of her work, Ananya is preparing for the premiere of Vikramaditya Motwane’s movie titled CTRL, which co-stars Vihaan Samat. This upcoming thriller set in the realm of social media explores potential consequences that Artificial Intelligence might bring about. Notably, this project signifies the second joint endeavor between Ananya and Vihaan, following their previous collaboration on Call Me Bae.

Written by Avinash Sampath and Vikramaditya Motwane, and featuring dialogues by Sumukhi Suresh, the series titled “CTRL” is being produced by Nikhil Dwivedi and Arya A Menon. This production will be released on Netflix starting October 4, 2024, a Friday.

Additionally, her Call Me Bae will soon return with its second season.
