As a gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the Nintendo Switch has truly outdone itself when it comes to cooperative gaming experiences. The variety and depth of these games are nothing short of astounding!
Experiencing gaming on-the-go through the Nintendo Switch stands out due to its unique nature, but what truly elevates it is the ability to connect and play with friends. The Nintendo Switch offers a diverse range of games, including platformers, adventures, action titles, and shooters, ensuring there’s something for everyone in its extensive game library.
We’ve put together a list of the best Switch co-op games, so you can team up with your friends, locally or online, and have a fun time gaming together. We’ve tried to include various types of games, for all ages, so hopefully, you can find the best Switch games for co-op! Let’s get right into it.
1 It Takes Two
1) We’re thrilled that the acclaimed Electronic Arts release has been transferred to Nintendo Switch! This unique co-op game centers around a pair of lovers facing separation – an unconventional concept for gaming, but it wonderfully captivates players.
After some unusual incidents occur, the pair finds themselves confined within life-sized dolls. In order to regain their human shape, they need to navigate a sequence of challenges or adventures. Given the nature of these tasks, cooperation between them is essential to find solutions.

2 Kirby and the Forgotten Land
In “Kirby and the Forgotten Land,” the cherished pink blob named Kirby captivated the Nintendo Switch community with his debut in 3D form. The graphic makeover of this iconic character was warmly appreciated by fans, and there’s a wealth of exciting discoveries to be made within the enchanting landscape of the Forgotten Land.
In this section, you assume control over Kirby as he ventures into a deserted urban landscape in search of missing Waddle Dees. Along the way, Elifilin, a mysterious ally, offers assistance. The narrative leans heavily on visual storytelling, but unfortunately, it’s not an open-world game. Despite this limitation, Kirby and the Forgotten Land delivers an enjoyable gaming experience.

3 Super Mario Odyssey
It’s highly unlikely that someone owning a Nintendo Switch hasn’t played Super Mario Odyssey. This 2017 release cleverly combines classic 2D and contemporary 3D elements, offering a touch of nostalgia in a modern package. What immediately stands out about the game is its expansive open-world kingdoms, and the best part? You can traverse numerous kingdoms, each with distinct themes such as the Metro Kingdom and the Luncheon Kingdom.
As a gamer, when I team up in co-op mode, I get to be Mario, while my buddy takes on the role of Cappy. Together, we need to strategize and collaborate to conquer foes and solve intricate puzzles. What keeps things fresh is that with Cappy, you can hurl him and manipulate the movements of whoever’s wearing him. If you’re a die-hard Mario fan or someone who enjoys co-op games on the Switch, don’t let this one slip through your fingers!

4 Animal Crossing: New Horizons
For those who use Nintendo, Animal Crossing games aren’t fresh territory. But when Animal Crossing: New Horizons (commonly abbreviated as ACNH or simply AC New Horizons) was released, there was a resurgence of excitement for the social simulation game. In New Horizons, you find yourself on an uninhabited island, tasked with creating a community from the ground up.
One great aspect of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is its accessibility for all, including video game enthusiasts. It’s a relaxed, non-competitive game that offers an ideal escape from stress. With both local and online multiplayer options, ACNH ensures you stay engaged with the community. If social-themed games appeal to you, then Animal Crossing: New Horizons is definitely worth exploring!

5 Cuphead
If Cuphead brings jazz music and 1930s-style animation to mind, you’re not alone in that association. This retro arcade game offers tough boss fights at every turn, but don’t be misled – it gives players the freedom to pick their own battles and choose their paths with different levels of difficulty, ensuring an enjoyable experience.
In Cuphead, you and a friend have the opportunity to team up and defeat enemies side by side in the cooperative mode. This means you can play as either Cuphead or Mugman, working together to conquer the game’s challenges using the local co-op option.

6 Overcooked! All You Can Eat
Just like people often say, communication truly plays a vital role. For the Overcooked games, it wouldn’t be complete without emphasizing collaboration and coordination as well.
As an avid fan, I’m thrilled to share that “Overcooked! All You Can Eat” is a delicious feast that brings together my beloved games, Overcooked! and Overcooked 2 – the undeniable champions of kitchen chaos! This tantalizing bundle also includes every DLC pack for both games, along with fresh new levels and chefs to keep the culinary craziness alive!
The objective is straightforward – collaborate, prepare, and deliver dishes. Yet, things can get hectic in there due to each kitchen having its unique vibe and the constant ticking clock pushing us to act swiftly and synchronize our actions. Besides serving as the main local cooperative hub (the primary focus), it offers cross-platform compatibility, making it easy for everyone to join in the fun.
If you enjoy cooperative games on Nintendo Switch that offer high levels of interaction, then it’s worth considering adding this game bundle to your shopping cart.

7 Terraria
In simpler terms, Terraria blends classic 2D sandbox elements with relaxing side-scrolling action into an engaging game. Upon initial observation, Terraria shares similarities with Minecraft and Stardew Valley, but it possesses a unique appeal. For one, Terraria features “procedurally generated environments,” which means each playthrough presents new surprises. Additionally, the varying biomes, tough opponents to conquer, and day-night cycles enrich the gaming experience.
In Terraria, you can team up with friends both locally and online to delve into various biomes, battle monsters, mine resources, construct structures, and craft items together. Moreover, this game offers cross-platform play, allowing you and your companions to enjoy the adventure on any device of their choice.
And if you want to learn more about the game, we have a review for you.

Instead of the traditional Lego games, this one offers an expansive, open environment for you to roam at your own pace, providing a more leisurely exploration experience. 10 Luigi’s Mansion 3
Boo!
If you’re on the hunt for an ideal Halloween game prior to the big day, Luigi’s Mansion 3 could very well be your pick. It seems Mario has mysteriously vanished, leaving his pals behind and leaving poor Luigi all by himself in the eerie Last Resort hotel. Assist Luigi in chasing away some ghostly inhabitants and unraveling the hotel’s dark secrets!
In Luigi’s Mansion 3, you embark on an exciting journey that combines elements of adventure, problem-solving, and specter hunting. As you explore the spooky hotel, you’ll use your Poltergust G-00 to trap ghosts in every nook and cranny. The variety of ghostly inhabitants is astounding, with a different type appearing at almost every turn.
You can double your fun with the co-op modes. You can split it with your friend and play as Luigi and Gooigi (the gooey version of Luiigi). Or you can invite up to eight players in the ScareScraper Mode, a time-based ghosthunting challenge.

11 Monster Hunter Rise
As a gaming enthusiast, let me tell you from personal experience that Monster Hunter Rise is truly something special. Nestled in a captivating ninja-inspired hamlet, I embark on an adventure where I hunt monstrous beasts and climb the ranks to become the ultimate hunter. Of course, there’s plenty of action-packed combat involved! And with the Sunbreak expansion DLC, there are even more fearsome creatures for me to conquer.
In addition to supporting both offline and online multiplayer options with a maximum of four participants, Monster Hunter Rise is surprisingly accessible for beginners, making it an enjoyable experience for players of all skill levels, including newcomers among your friends.

12 Mario vs. Donkey Kong
In this version of events, Donkey Kong acted mischievously by taking Mario’s treasured playthings. Consequently, our beloved Italian character must navigate his way through 130 stages to retrieve them. However, unlike previous games in the series, this one places a greater emphasis on problem-solving rather than speed. For instance, certain platforms may be colored red or blue. Pressing the red button will make those platforms appear, while the blue ones vanish, thereby opening up fresh routes within the level.
Mario is capable of balancing on his hands as well, a move he uses to shield his head from falling bricks among other novel tricks. And yes, playing cooperatively with a friend is possible by using the secondary controller – they can take on the monkey together!

13 Diablo III: Eternal Collection
Diablo, a role-playing game that requires no introduction, offers a unique twist on the experience by allowing portable play. The Diablo III: Eternal Collection package includes the original game, the Reaper of Souls expansion, and the Rise of the Necromancer add-on.
Every time I dive into the world of Diablo, I’m always blown away by the deep lore, smooth gameplay mechanics, and a variety of playable characters. What makes this experience even sweeter for Switch players is that we get unique features such as pets and cosmetic wings. My buddies can join me on this journey too, either locally or online. It might not be Diablo 4, but that’s far from a downside given how Diablo titles in the series always manage to deliver an exceptional gaming experience.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the top-selling game for the Nintendo Switch, and it’s easy to see why – it offers an exceptional gaming experience on the console, particularly when played with friends. While we’re not claiming it’s the best co-op game on the Switch, its impressive sales numbers certainly lend credence to that idea. 16 Stardew Valley
If you’re fond of laid-back games similar to Minecraft, I recommend giving Stardew Valley a try. Introduced back in 2016, it continues to captivate players. Upon starting the game, you find yourself inheriting a farm in Stardew Valley and deciding to trade the bustling city and corporate life for a peaceful seaside town. The objective is to create your own life there – grow crops, fish, craft goods, and engage in numerous other activities. There’s also the chance of developing romantic relationships with local residents, or if you play cooperatively, having a child with your partner is an option.

17 Unravel Two
Unravel Two is an exceptional adventure platformer that was honored with the D.I.C.E award as the best family game of the year. It truly deserves this recognition. When you give it a spin, you’ll immediately appreciate its remarkably harmonious cooperative system among consoles. While it remains engaging in solo mode, playing alongside a friend significantly amplifies the fun.
In contrast to “Unravel: The Prequel”, which was created for solo players, “Unravel Two” centers around two characters known as Yarnys, making it an ideal choice for cooperative gameplay. Although the majority of the game consists of intricate puzzles, there are also several exhilarating chase scenes that inject a significant dose of action into the experience.
