As a seasoned woman over 50 with a passion for sports and shopping, I couldn’t be more thrilled about QVC’s latest venture into pickleball! Growing up, I remember my grandmother playing paddleball in our backyard, and now it seems this classic game has evolved into something even more exciting – pickleball!
The newly acquired media company with live sports rights is additionally aiming to persuade its audience to participate in the sport they broadcast.
QVC, the company that owns the live shopping channels QVC and HSN, along with their streaming services, has struck a comprehensive agreement with USA Pickleball. This deal grants them the ability to broadcast tournaments throughout the entire year, including the annual USA Pickleball Nationals tournament held in November.
QVC plans to broadcast real-time pickleball games through their QVC+ and HSN+ streaming platforms, and they are set to make a strong impact at the upcoming National tournament taking place in Mesa, Arizona next month.
The company intends to promote pickleball to its audience in an immersive way. Specifically, QVC is designing a blend of entertainment and shoppable experiences centered around matches, offering exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpses, content, and they have even created a special collection for pickleball gear such as sporting equipment, athletic wear, accessories like water bottles and smartwatches, and other related items.
Instead of choosing pickleball for merely owning the rights, QVC highlights that their programming tends to cater towards women aged 50 and above, which coincides well with the leisurely charm of pickleball.
At QVC, we’re pioneering a shift in the perception of women beyond their fifties, showcasing them as empowered individuals brimming with potential, and embracing this new phase of life as the ‘Age of Possibility’, alongside our Q50 Ambassadors such as pickleball champion Jennifer Dawson,” expressed Annette Dunleavy, Vice President of brand marketing for QVC. “We’re committed to championing women in their golden years, and pickleball is rapidly gaining popularity among this age group as one of the preferred sports.
Meanwhile, USA Pickleball gains widespread recognition, focusing particularly on demographics likely to engage in the sport. As CEO Mike Nealy puts it, this partnership signifies a promising and lively future for the game itself.
Streaming the 2024 USA Pickleball Biofreeze National Championships on QVC+ and HSN+ live streaming platforms offers a chance to highlight the remarkable skills of our members and share the thrill of pickleball with a worldwide audience,” he emphasized.
