Sohum Shan recently spoke one-on-one with TopMob, opening up about his personal journey and challenges within the film industry. During the conversation, he acknowledged Shah Rukh Khan as a major source of inspiration and drive for entering Bollywood. Interestingly enough, it was Salman Khan who initially inspired Sohum to start sporting denim pants.
During our conversation, Tumbbad’s actor and producer Sohum Shah disclosed that it was Salman Khan who encouraged him to wear denim pants for the first time in his life. He explained in Hindi, “The first pair of denim I ever wore was thanks to Salman Khan sir. At our home, we used to receive 2 to 3 sets of clothes made by tailors. Denim wasn’t a common item back then.

In addition, he noted, “During college days, there were groups led by Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. One time, I spotted Salman wearing a light blue denim shirt with dark blue denim pants. Later on, when my brother was in Jaipur, I asked him to bring me some denim pants for me. That’s how I ended up wearing denim pants for the first time, thanks to Salman Khan.
During the same interview, the actor-producer mentioned that his education primarily came from movies since he lacked resources for literature or access to Hollywood cinema. In his own words, “Whatever I learned, it was through films.” He further explained that he adopts the life philosophy of Aamir Khan and credits this approach as the reason for his patience in completing Tumbbad over a span of six years.
