James Gunn Tells DCU Fans Not To Believe Rumors from Social Media 'Scoopers'

As a devoted follower of all things DC, I find myself constantly on the edge of my seat, eagerly awaiting every new tidbit of information about the upcoming projects from James Gunn and Peter Safran. Their careful management of the DCU’s secrets has become a thrilling game in itself, one that keeps us fans guessing and speculating.

The DCU is only just getting started, and already the franchise is being bombarded with rumors about possible projects that are supposedly being developed by and Peter Safran. However, Gunn has been more than happy to play gatekeeper on social media to quell some of the more elaborate claims about movies that will be joining confirmed projects such as Superman, The Brave & The Bold, and Swamp Thing. In his latest debunking session, Gunn also offered some advice to those looking to work out which rumors to believe – in short, don’t.

A recent buzz suggests that DC Studios might be developing a Mr. Freeze movie, in addition to the confirmed Bane and Deathstroke projects. However, one of the CEOs overseeing Warner Bros.’s DC productions has advised fans not to hold their breath for a frosty villain gracing Gotham anytime soon. Gunn, one half of the CEO team, expressed on Threads that while it’s not a terrible concept, he wouldn’t rule it out completely, but there’s absolutely no truth to it at present.

Beyond sharing insights, Gunn also provided some guidance on which DC project sources to trust moving forward. Here’s what he had to say: “I’d advise you to keep an open mind, but be discerning about the information you receive regarding our upcoming projects.

Should the mysteries pique your curiosity, by all means delve into them. However, refrain from placing blind faith in anything unless I or Peter (currently offline, even though he appears in recent posts) confirm it.

What New Projects Have Been Confirmed for the DCU?

It’s been quite some time since James Gunn unveiled the lineup of shows and movies for DCU’s “Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters”. Back then, he mentioned that there were still other projects in the pipeline. More recently, some of these additional projects have been verified, with hints of even more to come.

Earlier in the year, it was revealed that a live-action Teen Titans film is set to start production soon, with Ana Nogueira, who wrote Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, penning the movie. There’s no word yet on how this project will fit into the broader DCU, but it’s part of several strategic moves being made by Gunn and Safran to prevent the same fragmented outcome that affected the previous DC universe.

A surprising new entry to the series is an upcoming Bane and Deathstroke film, a development that many didn’t anticipate. This picture is rumored to focus on these two famous Batman adversaries in their own standalone production, providing them with another opportunity for redemption following past mistakes. Initially introduced in Batman & Robin, Bane gained more popularity when portrayed by Tom Hardy in Christopher Nolan’s final installment, The Dark Knight Rises. Deathstroke was last seen being played by Joe Manganiello in Zack Snyder’s extended cut of Justice League, where the narrative hinted at a potential solo film for this villain against Batman – portrayed by Ben Affleck – in another timeline.

This week, Gunn unexpectedly disclosed more news with the unveiling of “Dynamic Duo”, a unique animated film that combines puppetry and CGI. The story will center around Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, two Robin characters from DC Comics. While Gunn didn’t specify an exact release date for this movie, it’s one more thrilling prospect among many eagerly awaited productions set to emerge in the near future.
