As a long-time movie enthusiast who has seen “Mean Girls” more times than I can count (and that’s saying something!), I must say this latest merchandise collaboration between Fisher Price and Mean Girls is a surprising yet delightful twist. It’s not every day you see miniature versions of Regina George and her posse in their scandalous Santa outfits, complete with the Burn Book and Candy Gram accessories!
Twenty years ago, on October 3rd, actress Lindsay Lohan famously said in the movie ‘Mean Girls.’ This marked the beginning of Mean Girls Day. With the recent surge in ‘Mean Girls’ fandom following its 2024 remake, fans will commemorate the film’s 20th anniversary by rewatching the films, donning pink attire, and possibly…purchasing Fisher Price toys?
Mattel has unveiled collectible Little People figurines of the four girls from the original movie, dressed in their memorable risqué Santa attire. It’s important to note that these toys are labeled as suitable for “Adults and Fans” by Fisher Price, ensuring they remain distinct from children’s toys. The set includes figures of the main characters: Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan), Regina George (Rachel McAdams), Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried), and Gretchen Weiners (Lacey Chabert). Each figure is dressed in their snug tank tops and miniskirts, reminiscent of the well-known talent show scene.
It might appear as though Fisher-Price is embarking on something novel with these adult figurines, but they’re actually not the pioneers in this area.
In a somewhat surprising move, Little People collectibles have expanded their range to include characters from teen comedy “Mean Girls”, joining already popular figures based on adult-themed shows like “The Boys”, “The Office”, and “Squid Games”. While these two brands might not initially seem compatible, the adorable miniature Burn Book and Candy Gram accessories accompanying the Cady and Regina Little People figures are hard to ignore.
Mean Girls Celebrate 20th Anniversary With Merch
On previous occasions, the bold and adult-themed franchise has teamed up with children’s companies for collaborations. For instance, Funko Pop!, Forever 21, and Claire’s have released merchandise inspired by “Mean Girls” to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Although it is clear that the film caters to a more mature demographic, the figurines, fashion items, and accessories stemming from this anniversary are suitable for all age groups. Keep in mind that the movie, which deals with teenage bullies and the competitive high school environment, carries a PG-13 rating.
Due to the growing interest in Broadway musicals and musical films, Mean Girls remains a constant presence.
