Zendaya Explains Why She Hasn’t Watched Dancing With The Stars Since Her Season

Zendaya Explains Why She Hasn’t Watched Dancing With The Stars Since Her Season

As someone who grew up watching Dancing With The Stars, I have to admit that it was both thrilling and heartbreaking to see Zendaya compete on Season 16. Her performance with Val Chmerkovskiy was nothing short of extraordinary, yet they fell just short of winning the Mirrorball Trophy. It’s been over a decade since her appearance on the show, but I can still recall the disappointment that lingered in the air as Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough were crowned champions.

During the 2024 broadcast of Season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars,” viewers have the chance to select their preferred contestant and predict who will take home the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy. Each season brings a fresh group of celebrities showcasing their dancing skills in the ballroom, generating excitement about who might emerge victorious or spark debates over who deserved the title. Although some past participants occasionally offer guidance to the newcomers, Zendaya has chosen not to watch since her participation and shared her reasons behind this decision.

Zendaya, who was a star in “Euphoria”, danced on “DWTS” during its 16th season together with Val Chmerkovskiy. They were close to winning, but ended up finishing second, losing to Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough. This loss is still disappointing for fans to think about even after more than a decade, but Zendaya has moved past it. On the “The Awardist” podcast on “Entertainment Weekly”, she confessed that she hasn’t watched any other season of the dancing competition show since her own, not because she was upset about the loss, but simply because she wasn’t as interested in subsequent seasons.

Since I joined Dancing With the Stars, I haven’t caught any of its episodes. To be honest, I wasn’t much into Dancing With the Stars before joining it. I guess they weren’t aiming for an audience like me. But my grandma is quite a fan; it’s her thing!

It’s important to note that not everyone who watches “Dancing with the Stars” is older; many younger people, including myself, enjoy it as well. However, Zendaya’s personal preference might be different because she hadn’t watched the show before joining it, and this lack of prior interest persists even now. Interestingly, her experience on the series contributes to why she doesn’t watch, and this reasoning is entirely understandable.

Additionally, I found it quite overwhelming as well. It made me feel as if I might need to step away from the situation.

DWTS’ Carrie Ann Inaba Reacts To Anna Delvey’s ‘Dismissive’ Final Comment

The actor famed for “Dune” had a taste of the “Dancing with the Stars” journey. She’s well-aware of the grueling effort required to compete, and undoubtedly understands the intricacies of the show. Despite being adored by viewers and coming close to winning, it wasn’t without its challenges. Given this, choosing not to revisit that experience by watching “DWTS” seems reasonable. To an observer, it appears to be a demanding endeavor, and for a high-profile celebrity, witnessing other stars go through it might only intensify the stress.

Despite facing a challenging time during the show, Zendaya’s experience proved inspiring to many aspiring contestants. Xochitl Gomez, the Season 32 winner, revealed to TopMob that she found inspiration in both Zendaya and Laurie Hernandez, who danced with Val Chmerkovskiy. What particularly impressed Gomez was their youth when they were on DWTS and their need to think creatively to truly shine. In light of this, it’s clear that Zendaya’s hard work on the popular series certainly paid off in terms of inspiration.

For contestants on “Dancing with the Stars”, it can be a tense experience, but it’s undeniably thrilling to watch, even if you’re not part of the primary audience. Fresh installments of “DWTS” will air on Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 8 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Viewers can also catch up on episodes with a Disney+ subscription.
