As I sat down to write this piece, I found myself taking a trip back to my teenage years and the exhilarating days of November 2014 when I first watched Mockingjay – Part 1. It feels like just yesterday that I was anxiously awaiting the continuation of Katniss Everdeen’s story, having been left hanging by the cliffhanger ending of Catching Fire. The film’s 10th anniversary is fast approaching, and it’s hard not to feel a tad old realizing how much time has passed since then!

On November 21st, 2014, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay–Part 1″ had its debut and turned out to be the top-earning film of that year. This wasn’t unexpected, given that pre-sale ticket numbers broke records for Fandango at the time. When Josh Hutcherson, who portrayed Peeta, learned from Esquire that the following month would mark his movie’s upcoming anniversary, the actor’s response was remarkably understandable.

Absolutely agree with you, Mr. Hutcherson! Honestly, I can’t believe how quickly time passes. The movie was definitely on my must-watch list at the time due to the suspense created by the cliffhanger in Catching Fire. When it was revealed that after Katniss destroyed the area during the third Quarter Quell, the Capitol took Peeta while both Katniss and Finnick were rescued by District 13, it was quite a shock. Additionally, learning that Katniss’ district was destroyed was heart-wrenching. Given these events, it’s no surprise that Mockingjay–Part 1 topped Fandango’s list of most anticipated movies in 2014.
In “Mockingjay-Part 1,” Josh Hutcherson, despite a limited screen time, made a significant impact. His character, Peeta, faced a heart-wrenching decision when he obeyed President Snow’s orders to disarm District 13 and even attempted to harm Katniss. Later, he was hijacked, adding another layer of complexity to his role. After the film, Hutcherson shared his thoughts on the powerful themes in the dystopian movie and expressed his gratitude for being a part of the “Hunger Games” franchise, much like the actor from “Five Nights at Freddy’s.
As a gamer, I find this game incredibly powerful – it’s all about standing up against tyranny, giving the people a platform to express themselves, and fostering unity among players. The depth of its themes is astounding, and the fact that it resonates with so many young gamers, making a significant impact on their lives… well, it’s just awesome to be a part of something this cool!
