As a fan who has witnessed the heart-wrenching beauty of This Is Us unfold over six seasons, I can’t help but feel a profound connection to the Pearson family’s cabin – especially since it was none other than Alyson Hannigan‘s house!
Throughout its six-season run on NBC, This Is Us showcased a large cast, as the narrative encompassed various generations and presented numerous characters who were connected to the Pearson family in some way during different decades. Alyson Hannigan was not one of the guest stars, but it was later discovered that her house played a significant part, contrary to her initial reluctance to permit the emotionally charged series to film there.
Alyson Hannigan, famously known for her role in “How I Met Your Mother,” once shared an interesting tale about her home. This house was initially designed and built by Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley’s character) as seen in the series, and tragically, it was where Rebecca (Mandy Moore’s character) passed away. In 2021, Hannigan revealed on Sirius XM’s “The Michelle Collins Show” (through ET) that before they moved in, this house was frequently used for filming. Initially turning down studios who wanted to shoot there about twice a month, Hannigan and her husband reconsidered when they found out the director of “This Is Us” was their neighbor. Hannigan explained:
We were like, ‘If we are ever going to do it, we would do it for that show ’cause it’s so good.’
Indeed, I find myself in agreement; the series that spanned from 2016 to 2022 was truly exceptional. That humble cabin seemed almost like a character itself, playing a significant role in Kevin’s life and serving as the gathering place for the Pearson family during Rebecca’s last days.
However, one can understand why the American Pie actress wouldn’t be too enthusiastic about inviting a film crew into the home she shared with husband Alexis Denisof and their children Keeva and Satyana. Alyson Hannigan even said they “know what productions do to locations,” and what a picturesque location it was! Everything worked out splendidly in the long run, as Alyson Hannigan shared on a podcast. Not only did they make sure to repair any harm done during filming, but they even restored the house to its original pristine state, going beyond the call of duty.
Apart from returning our house in pristine condition, they even repaired the damage I had caused. While they were tending to some touch-ups here and there, they noticed a handprint on one of the walls – most likely from one of my children. They kindly offered to clean it up as well, which I gratefully accepted, although I knew it wasn’t their doing.
In the cabin that served as the backdrop for numerous Pearson family mysteries unfolding and ultimately resolving in the 2034 timeline of “This Is Us,” it’s hard to imagine anyone else making a home there other than Rebecca and Miguel (Jon Huertas). The emotions ran high during those moments, don’t you recall, with all those unexpected plot twists?
