Chad Stahelski’s 87Eleven Teams with Lionsgate for ‘The Professionals’ (Exclusive)

As a die-hard action movie fan with a penchant for behind-the-scenes trivia, this news about “The Professionals” has me absolutely thrilled! The fact that Chad Stahelski, the man who breathed life into John Wick, is involved in producing this project is already enough to make my heart race. But when I learned that Madison Turner, a stuntman-turned-scribe and son of Tierre Turner (a stunt legend himself), is penning the screenplay, it took things to another level!

It’s a whodunnit by way of an action movie.

87Eleven Entertainment, in collaboration with Mandalay Pictures, will be producing “The Professionals”, an original action film that has been acquired by Lionsgate.

Madison Turner, a screenwriter and former stuntman, is now refining the original script that was drafted by Hunter Perot, the grandson of the late business magnate and presidential candidate Ross Perot. Notably, Madison’s father, Tierre Turner, is an accomplished stunt performer and coordinator who has contributed to productions like “Training Day” and is currently involved with “9-1-1”.

The stunt connection is key, as it was one of the factors that brought the players together.

Chad Stahelski, known for directing the John Wick films after a career in stunts, is teaming up with his partners at 87Eleven, Alex Young and Jason Spitz, to produce this project. The initial producers, Jason Michael Berman and Jordan Moldo from Mandalay Pictures, will also continue their involvement.

In simpler terms, the professionals are likened to a blend of mystery (Clue) and action-packed thriller (John Wick). The narrative unfolds around a band of assassins who find themselves trapped in an English countryside manor, where one of them is mysteriously killed. The surviving group must then unravel the puzzle behind this death.

Josh Glick, David Bernon, and Perot are set to act as executive producers in this project. James Myers is responsible for its supervision, with Lionsgate taking charge. Meanwhile, Bonnie Stylides from the studio handled the negotiations and finalizing of the deal.

Turner, who has The Dark Knight Rises listed among his stunt accomplishments, previously collaborated with Mandalay on the script for Adam, an action-packed project for Anthony Mackie. This was set up on Netflix. Additionally, he had previously arranged for his Blacklist script titled The Liberators to be developed at Warner Bros., with Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society and Safehouse Pictures on board to produce. Turner is represented by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Goodman Genow. (Paraphrased)

Stahlenski is preparing for “Highlander” as his next project as director, and he’s also producing the upcoming action film “Ballerina,” which takes place in the “John Wick” universe and includes a cameo by Keanu Reeves.

Lately, Mandalay has completed filming on “High and Low,” a fresh take by Spike Lee on Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller for Apple and A24, featuring Denzel Washington. Previously, the company was responsible for producing “Air,” the critically-acclaimed drama directed by Ben Affleck for Amazon MGM Studios.
