As a long-time Drake fan, I’ve always admired his unwavering loyalty to his OVO family. The latest “OG” campaign is a testament to this bond, and it resonates deeply with me because, let’s face it, we’ve all had our fair share of fake friends in life. Drake’s recent rant at the Toronto club felt like a mirror reflection of my own experiences – those people you thought were close, only to discover they weren’t as loyal as you thought.
Drake emphasizes the importance of family and looking after one’s own. For the new “OG” campaign, he reunites with his OVO (October’s Very Own) family to showcase the latest line, which appears to be a response to the buzz generated during this past summer.
Just recently, the Canadian rapper showed up at a Toronto club over the weekend, taking to the mic to talk about his “real friends.” In his rant about fake friends, he said said, “My real friends are definitely in the building. But let me tell you that you’re going to come to a point in life where people you thought were friends, people you thought were close to you switch up.” He continues to snipe these fake friends and says, “They might try to move funny with you. They might stab you in the back. They might do a lot of things to you. You’ll come to that realization, wherever you’re at in life. You’ve probably been there and you’ll be there again. That’s how life is. Sometimes it’s you and you alone by yourself.” While it is evident that Drake is still dealing with the fallout from his beef with Kendrick Lamar, Future, Metro Boomin, Rick Ross and even fellow Canadian, The Weeknd, the 6God is stepping up to show that he has his OGs behind him.
In the forthcoming OG OVO collection, there’s a tribute to Drake standing by his own people. Members of his close-knit OVO circle, such as Jonny Roxx (@ovoroxx) and long-time buddy Niko Carino (@ovoniko), join him in the campaign, alongside other reliable associates. They all sport the iconic OVO owl insignia hoodie in black and are pictured together behind The Boy initially, followed by individual shots showcasing them individually. Other items unveiled include an OVO letterman jacket, additional sweaters, and more. For Drake, this season is about family.
The OVO OG Collection drops on October 11 online.
