As a longtime Marvel enthusiast who’s been following the cinematic universe since its inception, I must say that the prospect of Brie Larson reprising her role as Captain Marvel is both exhilarating and somewhat perplexing. On one hand, it’s wonderful to see that Carol Danvers will continue to be a significant part of the MCU, especially considering her crucial role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Expressing it differently, one could say that “The Marvels” was far from impressive in the grand scheme of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The movie’s box office earnings totaled just $206 million, falling short of recouping its production costs. Despite some questioning Brie Larson’s future as Captain Marvel, she seems poised to reappear prominently in “Avengers: Doomsday” and its sequel, “Avengers: Secret Wars.
As reported by Alex Perez at The Cosmic Circus, Captain Marvel is expected to play a significant role among the Avengers in future movies. Notably, the Russo Brothers, Anthony and Joe, are set to return as directors for these films, signifying their comeback to the MCU since directing 2019’s blockbuster hit, Avengers: Endgame. This film generated revenue exceeding $2.5 billion dollars.
Is it likely she’ll arrive prior to the year 2026, which we call Doomday? Perez, a well-informed Marvel insider, indicates that while it’s possible, it seems rather uncertain. When asked about this during his monthly Discord chat, he responded with the following:
Hello there! Hope you’re enjoying your day and the upcoming days equally well! By any chance, would you fancy catching up with Captain Marvel sometime? Perhaps, in movies like
I must admit, it’s quite possible that she might appear in Spider-Man 4, but if you want to know where she’s most likely to make her next appearance, it would be in Avengers: Doomsday. She will play a significant role in that film.
Will Brie Larson Return as Captain Marvel?
After playing Captain Marvel four times, Larson is now strongly associated with Carol Danvers. It’s difficult to envision anyone else taking over the role at present. However, while she’s been tight-lipped about her future in the MCU, she’s been elusive in her responses to interview questions, offering vague answers that don’t provide much information. This is typical for Marvel actors, so it doesn’t necessarily mean she won’t rejoin the franchise; it simply means that, as of now, nothing official has been announced.
So far, the most shocking revelation about “Doomsday” unfolded at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, when it was disclosed that Robert Downey Jr. would reprise his role not as Iron Man, but as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom, a declaration that left many in awe. The Fantastic Four will join the scene after they have their own film in 2025, along with Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, who hasn’t been seen since the 2022 release of “Multiverse of Madness”. It’s also expected that The Thunderbolts will make an appearance, although it’s undecided whether it will be the full team or just specific members. Kevin Feige has kept quiet on this matter, preferring to keep details under wraps until their film debut in 2025.
