The Get Out Kids is a spooky throwback to 80s horror-adventure movies, out now on iOS

  • The Get Out Kids is a series of interactive puzzles set in a Goonies-esque horror film
  • A throwback to the 80s, this former Apple Arcade exclusive is available now on the App Store proper
  • And the best part? It’s absolutely free

As a child of the 80s who grew up watching The Goonies and Monster Squad, I was instantly drawn to The Get Out Kids. This interactive puzzle game with its horror-focused kids film aesthetic reminded me of my childhood memories that still bring a smile to my face.

The 80s was a great decade for horror, kids’ films and horror-focused kids films. Think The Goonies, Monster Squad or other mainstays, and if you grew up with parents who appreciated these classics you probably know how entertaining they can be. And developer Frosty Pop seem to agree with their hit title The Get Out Kids, out now on the iOS App Store.

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: Once upon a time, an Apple Arcade exclusive titled “The Get Out Kids” had me hooked. In this game, I play as Molly and Salim, two pals who were trying to catch a late-night showing of Ghostblasters at the drive-in. Unfortunately, things didn’t go according to plan, and we found ourselves in a pickle – our beloved dog Moses went missing! Now it’s up to us to navigate through a bunch of eerie locales, crack some puzzles, and track down Moses before it’s too late!

Sure thing! The Get Out Kids isn’t quite like Shakespeare’s work, but it offers unique gameplay elements with levels set in 3D dioramas. This is a narrative puzzle game, and it features seven mini-games reminiscent of arcade games to add a touch of nostalgia. Plus, the best part? It’s completely free!

Spooktacular

80s vibe enthusiast here! From Stranger Things to my favorite gaming worlds, the kid-friendly horror aesthetic of the ’80s has certainly made a comeback in both movies and games. However, what truly captivates me is the 3D diorama style that The Get Out Kids employs – it’s just so appealing to someone like me who enjoys this unique art form! And hey, at zero cost, there’s no reason not to give it a spin!
