Happy Accidents Teams Up With New Zealand’s Kevin & Co on ‘The Sanctuary’ (Exclusive)

As a seasoned viewer of comedies with a soft spot for unique and heartfelt narratives, I am utterly intrigued by the upcoming series, “The Sanctuary.” The blend of American billionaire drama, New Zealand’s quirky charm, and bird conservation is an unconventional yet enticing combination that has me hooked.

Based in Los Angeles, the film and TV production company Happy Accidents is partnering with New Zealand-based Kevin & Co on a fresh comedy series titled The Sanctuary. This new show revolves around an unconventional American billionaire who resides incognito in Australia, as The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

The eight-part series, co-created with Warner Bros. Discovery NZ, revolves around Hunter, a wealthy American tech entrepreneur who unknowingly sells an ordinary app to a shady private military group linked to Russia. They intend to misuse the technology for destructive purposes. Fearing for his life, he flees to New Zealand where he encounters not only FBI agents and Russian assassins but also zealous bird conservationists.

Hunter chooses to convert his lavish island sanctuary into a bird sanctuary managed by the Department of Conservation (D.O.C.),” the plot summary states. “However, as his secluded haven is inundated with various birds and avian enthusiasts, he learns that being a billionaire on the run comes with its own set of challenges.

The TV show was developed by the creative team known as Two Hearts, consisting of Laura Daniel and Joseph Moore. These talented individuals are recognized for their work both in writing and acting, as well as under their comedic-musical personas. Later this month, Happy Accidents will present this unique series to potential global buyers at the MIPCOM international television market in Cannes.

Earlier this year, executive producer Holly A. Hines and ex-COO of MPCA, Eric Jarboe established Happy Accidents with an aim to collaborate with global partners for creating and disseminating a multitude of movies and television shows.

Daniel’s acting portfolio boasts roles in shows like “The Brokenwood Mysteries” and “Vince,” and she often graces comedy talk shows such as “7 Days” and “Have You Been Paying Attention.” Notably, she was crowned the Season 2 champion of “Taskmaster NZ.

Holly A. Hines and Eric Jarboe, co-founders and co-CEOs of Happy Accidents, stated that The Sanctuary is a grand, entertaining comedy with a touch of heart, which they believe will captivate audiences worldwide. They are elated to be working with Laura and Joseph, two exceptional comedy writers, on their first international series.

As a gamer, I can’t help but appreciate the creativity, vision, and wit that shines through each episode they produce. With Kevin & Co by my side as co-producers, we share the same passion for delivering outstanding shows to gamers worldwide.
