DirecTV Sets FAST Service Launch

As a seasoned gamer who’s had his fair share of battles with buffering and lag, this news about DirecTV entering the FAST channel business is nothing short of a relief! No more satellite dishes to fiddle with, just a quick download and I’m good to go. The lineup of shows from A+E Networks sounds promising, especially when I can binge-watch “Pawn Stars” without worrying about data overages.

DirecTV is getting into the FAST channel business — no satellite dish necessary.

The satellite television provider is set to debut a free, ad-supported streaming service called MyFree DirecTV on November 15th. This new platform will feature a variety of unscripted shows from A+E Networks, such as Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Ice Road Truckers, and The First 48. Additionally, it will offer other titles. As Directv aims to carve out a portion of the expanding FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) market, it plans to provide curated FAST channels and a vast on-demand library. This service is set to be available as a mobile app and on certain streaming devices and smart TVs.

The integrated FAST service will showcase popular and recently viewed content from DirecTV’s “Your TV” feature, making it easily accessible for users.

Directv envisions a future for TV that is brighter, offering consumers a wider variety of high-quality content while giving them more control and value. The introduction of MyFree Directv will deliver on this promise. As stated by Amy Leifer, the chief ad sales officer at Directv Advertising, ‘We’re dedicated to enhancing our investment in this field, empowering our advertising clients to connect with new audiences using tailored and contextually relevant solutions, as well as innovative ad formats.’

Kent Rees is set to take on the role as manager at MyFree DirecTV. He joins from Dish Network, where he spearheaded the growth of their FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television) service, Freestream. Before that, he served as the Chief Marketing Officer and General Manager for FAST Studios.

The rapidly growing Free, Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) industry is seeing major players like Fox’s Tubi and the Roku Channel consistently make significant impacts on Nielsen’s monthly rankings of streaming platforms. It’s predicted that FAST services will generate approximately $8 billion in ad revenue across the entire year of 2024.
