Dingyun Zhang and adidas Unveil The ‘Kouza’ Silhouette

Dingyun Zhang and adidas Unveil The 'Kouza' Silhouette

As a gamer with a deep appreciation for both fashion and cultural references, I can’t help but be thrilled about the latest collaboration between Dingyun Zhang and adidas Originals. Having grown up playing sports and admiring the iconic adidas Three Stripes, it’s fascinating to see how this brand continues to push boundaries with their collaborations.

Dingyun Zhang and adidas Originals are broadening their collaboration by introducing a fresh design, which skillfully blends the Chinese designer’s progressive approach to shape and practicality.

In a statement, Zhang expressed that he is deeply fascinated by the concept of transformation and how appearances can be deceiving. He went on to say that the adidas Kouza model represents the balance between form and function, all the while maintaining an air of sophistication and style. Notably, this is Zhang’s original design for adidas, following his innovative take on the Samba model. The Kouza showcases Zhang’s unique, forward-thinking aesthetic while subtly referencing his cultural background.

Previously of YEEZY design and a graduate from CSM, this artist has built a robust brand identity through his extravagantly large puffer creations that echo ancient Chinese and Mongolian battle attire in fresh ways. However, the Kouza sneaker takes its cues from a more contemporary cultural source – adidas’ 2008 Beijing Olympics Boxing Boot. Similar to the original footwear, the Kouza features breathable netting layers at the quarter section. Yet, it introduces a mid-profile design with a bigger sole and emphasized arch. In keeping with the designer’s whimsical take on proportions, an oversized heel counter extends over the pull tab.

As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the initial Kouza release will feature three vibrant color schemes. One predominantly black design will pop with electric blue laces, while another grayscale version will showcase light blue and tan accents. On the lighter side, expect a primarily white design with subtle green undertones. To complement this new silhouette, our partners are unveiling fresh Dingyun Zhang adidas Samba colorways as well – a monotone gray option and a brown design that stands out with contrasting orange and white details.

The latest Dingyun Zhang adidas capsule will land on October 15 at select retailers.
