The Sky Is Pink turns 5: When Priyanka Chopra couldn’t stop crying after a scene; said ‘I know what it means to lose a child’

As an ardent fan of heart-touching narratives and profound performances, I wholeheartedly adore “The Sky Is Pink.” This film, a hidden gem in Bollywood, resonated deeply with countless viewers due to its emotional storyline and stellar acting.

“The Sky Is Pink is one of those lesser-known treasures in Bollywood that resonated strongly with viewers. Its poignant narrative and powerful acting performances left a lasting impression. As the movie marks its fifth anniversary, we revisit an earlier interview featuring the director, Shonali Bose, who shared her memories of Priyanka Chopra, the film’s lead actress. During an emotional scene, Chopra reportedly broke down in tears, as she felt a profound connection with her character’s pain. Interestingly, Bose herself has experienced the loss of a child, which added an extra layer of authenticity to the actress’s performance.

The movie “The Sky Is Pink” is inspired by the real-life tale of motivational speaker Aisha Chaudhary’s parents, chronicling their 25-year romantic journey, their experiences with Aisha, and the sorrow they faced when she passed away at age 18. Prior to its premiere, director Shonali Bose shared her feelings about this poignant filming experience in an open interview with Mumbai Mirror.

During the filming of an emotionally charged scene, Priyanka found herself unable to stop crying once the take was over. Bose shared, “It was during an intense shoot that she had to weep profoundly after the scene. After I yelled ‘cut,’ I embraced her tightly and she couldn’t hold back the tears. She kept apologizing, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry.’ She said, ‘Now I understand what it feels like to lose a child. I am so sorry for Ishlu.’ I kept holding onto her.

For those not in the know, the filmmaker tragically lost her son named Ishlu at age 16 due to an unexpected incident involving an electric razor. The accident proved fatal.

In the course of discussing the film Modern Love Mumbai, the director disclosed that Priyanka Chopra affectionately referred to Rohit Saraf’s character, who portrayed her on-screen son, as ‘Ishlu’. Reminiscing about the actress’s request, she said, “Priyanka asked if she could call him ‘Ishlu’ in this scene instead of what Aditi calls her son. I happily agreed when she inquired.

On October 11, 2019, the movie “The Sky Is Pink” made its way to the big screen. In this film, we saw notable performances from Farhan Akhtar, Zaira Wasim, Rohit Saraf, and Priyanka Chopra.
