Overwatch 2’s New Season Teases Upcoming Tank Hero

As a seasoned Overwatch player with years of gaming under my belt and an unyielding love for this vibrant universe, I must say that Blizzard has outdone themselves yet again! The ‘Spellbinder’ Season 13 trailer was nothing short of breathtaking, promising fresh content, stunning new skins, and the tantalizing hint of a new tank – Phreak.

Just now, Blizzard unveiled the trailer for their forthcoming Season 13, which they’re calling ‘Spellbinder’. This exciting new season offers fresh activities, stunning new character skins, and a tantalizing hint at the introduction of their 13th playable tank.

In the trailer, we didn’t catch a glimpse of his appearance or equipment, but they did reveal his name as ‘Phreak’. It appears that Phreak will be the next tank character in Overwatch 2 following Mauga. From the brief teaser, it seems that Phreak has a strong Scottish accent and a penchant for chaos.

Although we’re yet to fully understand the abilities of the latest tank, it’s not the first time Phreak has made an appearance. Eagle-eyed Overwatch players have already spotted him in action prior to the game’s official release. He was given a hint during BlizzCon last year, and now it seems we’ll be seeing more of this character.

Reddit users swiftly identified that this is the same character, Phreak, they’ve encountered previously, as mentioned in this post. There’s no official confirmation about his complete set of skills, but he’s been spotted with a Cannon, a Stomp attack, and an enigmatic ‘Attract’ ability. The full extent of Phreak’s abilities remains unknown for now, but more details are expected to surface before Season 13 concludes.

A different Reddit user pointed out that the sharp, black orb in Oasis appears to have vanished or been damaged. Some fans speculate that this could be a result of Phreak’s actions.

With The Spellbinder Season, Overwatch 2 is reaching another significant milestone in its journey. After a rocky start with the abandonment of its PvE mode years ago, the game has gradually rebuilt its reputation, winning back player confidence. Now, there’s growing excitement among players as they eagerly anticipate diving into Overwatch 2.

Instead of Overwatch 2 attracting a larger community due to its new battle pass system and regular balance updates compared to the initial version, it’s important to note that certain concessions were necessary. Regrettably, this led to the elimination of Loot Boxes, which were replaced by a more aggressive monetization strategy.

This Season, Widowmaker is set to acquire the newest Epic Skin, featuring a mystical witch-themed persona that perfectly enhances her piercing gaze. The skin artfully balances her deadly nature with an air of innocence. Fans of Widowmaker should definitely consider getting this, as it offers an array of distinctive sound and visual effects when aiming, firing, or grappling.

In relation to Mythic Skins, Season 13 presented an elegant method for showcasing your accumulated Mythics. Introduced was the Gilded Skins feature that allows you to spend more Prisms to transform your preferred Mythic into a dazzling golden version.

Apart from this, we’ll also experience a refreshed Halloween Terror event by trying out our strategies in its innovative Player vs Player mode. The initial taste of this will be from Junkenstein’s Laboratory, where Blizzard is testing their new ‘skill tree’ concept. During each match, you’ll encounter cursed talent cards that can modify your hero abilities, adding an element of unpredictability and excitement to the battlefield.

Overwatch 2’s Season 13 launches this October 15 for all consoles.
