Kim Jones Steps Down From Fendi Women's, Stays at Dior Men's

As a seasoned fashion enthusiast with a keen eye for design and a deep appreciation for the evolution of the industry, I find myself both intrigued and saddened by the news of Kim Jones stepping down from his role at Fendi. Having made a name for himself in the realm of menswear, it was an exciting development when he took on the challenge of leading Fendi’s womenswear collection.

Kim Jones is stepping down from his role at Fendi, where he’s been leading women’s and haute couture design for the past four years, to devote all his attention to his duties as menswear director at Dior. In 2018, Jones began his career at Dior. Then, in 2020, as Fendi sought renewal during the start of the COVID pandemic and following the death of Karl Lagerfeld the previous year, he was appointed to the position at Fendi. Lagerfeld had been designing for Fendi for over 54 years, and his pioneering work left a significant legacy that Jones must now build upon.

It is often thought that Jones’ work for Dior Men’s is more powerful than his creations for Fendi Women’s. This isn’t surprising because Jones has primarily worked in menswear throughout his career. Before joining Dior, he designed for brands such as Louis Vuitton and Dunhill. Working with women’s fashion at Fendi was a fresh challenge for him. However, he successfully elevated the brand by using traditional design motifs, daring graphic combinations, experimenting with textiles, and collaborating with artists.

The news follows a series of significant changes in the executive levels of the fashion industry. Most recently, LVMH confirmed that Hedi Slimane was leaving Celine, with Michael Rider stepping in as his successor. Prior to this, Sarah Burton ascended to the top position at Givenchy.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for new updates in the fashion world too! The buzz about the musical chairs among creative directors has taken an interesting turn with Dior Men’s, as Miss Tweed’s trusted sources suggest Jonathan Anderson might be replacing Jones there. With today’s announcement, it seems like Anderson may stick around at LOEWE for a bit longer or perhaps he’s plotting something unexpected elsewhere.
