Two of the Worst Tomb Raider Games Are Getting a Remaster

As someone who grew up with Lara Croft and her thrilling adventures, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and trepidation about the upcoming Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered collection. While I fondly remember my days spent exploring ancient tombs and unraveling mysteries alongside the iconic heroine, I also recall the less-than-stellar experiences that were The Last Revelation, Chronicles, and The Angel of Darkness.

Exciting tidings for enthusiasts of Lara Croft! The remastered collection of Tomb Raider IV-VI is on its way, set to arrive on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One on Valentine’s Day, February 14.

Among the assortment, you’ll find a few titles that may not be everyone’s cup of tea: The Last Revelation, The Chronicles, and The Angel of Darkness.

Just like its predecessor that garnered great success, the second remastered compilation is set to arrive with all the sparkling features you’ve grown accustomed to. Among these are options to switch between original and remastered visuals, or traditional and contemporary control settings. Additionally, this time around, you can adjust boss health bars as well.

The only real caveat fans have is the actual games themselves. The three games are far from considered the best in the franchise. In fact, two of them are in contention for worst in the series.

Although The Last Revelation received moderate reviews, Chronicles and The Angel of Darkness didn’t perform quite as well. In fact, Chronicles earned a Metacritic score of 57, with some critics like Edge magazine even giving it a score of 4 out of 10.

The game titled “AoD” is currently in a significantly poorer condition. Upon its release in 2003, it received a score of 49 on Metacritic from notable gaming outlets like IGN, Eurogamer, and Game Informer, who were highly critical of the game.

As a devoted gamer, I’m not holding my breath that the Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered collection will iron out major gameplay flaws. However, given the triumph of the earlier remaster, it’s clear that Lara Croft has a passionate fan base ready to give those games another go.

Back in 2023, I was thrilled to learn that the remastered collections of Tomb Raider I-III, as per the report by Embracer (the current IP owners), surpassed all expectations! Not only did they sell like hotcakes, but they also garnered an incredible response from fans and critics alike. It’s safe to say that Lara Croft’s adventures are still going strong!

As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about my favorite adventurer, Lara Croft! It seems like there are some big plans in the works, including a major AAA game that aims to outshine the amazing work of Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal from the recent trilogy. Can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

As a fellow enthusiast who joined the fray with the 2013 reboot, journeying back to the origin might offer valuable insights into why this series is ripe for renewal. It turns out that Angelina Jolie wasn’t solely responsible for the franchise’s current state.
