Mithun Chakraborty says he never promoted his kids to get films in Bollywood: ‘You have to fight your own battle’

As an ardent admirer of Mithun Chakraborty, I’ve always been captivated by his unwavering spirit and indomitable willpower that have propelled him to the pinnacle of success. His recent receipt of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award is a testament to his relentless pursuit of excellence and his commitment to his craft.

Mithun Chakraborty was honored with the esteemed Dadasaheb Phalke Award during the 70th National Film Awards event on October 8, 2024. Given his successful career, he encourages his children to navigate their own paths, which is likely why he has never requested assistance from the industry for his four kids’ careers.

In an interview with NDTV, the seasoned actor expressed a contrasting view about the entertainment industry being considered a ‘family business’. Mithun Chakraborty shared that he has four children who are all involved in films. Remarkably, he has never requested any producer or anyone else to provide work for his sons.

The main actor additionally discussed his sons, Namashi Chakraborty and Mimoh Chakraborty. While Namashi tried out for a part in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Bad Boy, Mimoh collaborated with Vikram Bhatt in Haunted. He mentioned that after putting their utmost effort into their characters, whether the movies succeed or not, that’s another topic. “However, I can assure you from the depth of my feelings, I have never boosted my children and I advised them that you must fight your own battles,” he concluded.

The performer from “The Kashmir Files” expressed his viewpoint that simply having a parent who is an actor doesn’t automatically make a person an actor. In his opinion, the child must also possess inherent talent; otherwise, they may be asked to depart because it’s only raw ability that matters in this field.

In an exclusive chat with TopMob, Mithun Da shared insights into the hardships Namashi experienced while securing his debut role in Bad Boy. He expressed, “Namashi endured a great deal of difficulty. By ‘difficulty’, I mean knowing every step he took – from the audition to the way people treated him. They wouldn’t even let him speak. I knew everything. When he emerged, they’d realize he was Mithun Da’s son, and those inside would feel remorseful, exclaiming something like ‘Oh my goodness, what have we done’.

As a lifestyle expert reflecting on my journey, I acknowledge the pang of guilt that often grips me. I grapple with the thought: if I had spoken up then, perhaps things could have been different. Yet, I realize there are countless others who share this city with me, battling their own struggles in Mumbai’s vibrant yet challenging landscape.

In the same conversation, I shared some insights about my journey working with the esteemed director, Rajkumar Santoshi. I expressed, “To be honest, I consider it a stroke of luck and destiny aligning. Working under Rajkumar Santoshi was more than just an opportunity; it felt like a blessing, especially since my father, Mithun Chakraborty, was also part of our film set. It was a double privilege for me to work alongside an actor with 400 films experience and the great Raj ji. I took it all in my stride. When such experienced professionals are involved, the entire process flows smoothly. To have a legend like Raj ji as my debut director is not just a blessing, but a testament to the kindness of fate.
