32 Movies And TV Shows Featuring The Stars Of Grey’s Anatomy

Oh my, it seems like the world of television is a rather small one after all! From the hallowed halls of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital to the vibrant stages of Glee and beyond, these talented actors have truly graced our screens with their captivating performances.

For over two decades now, Grey’s Anatomy has graced our screens, witnessing numerous surgeons join and depart from the hospital. Given its expansive cast, it’s quite typical to find these talented actors and actresses in various other TV series and films. Let’s explore 32 different projects where our cherished Seattle doctors have made their appearances.

Made Of Honor (Patrick Dempsey, Kevin McKidd)

Besides having Patrick Dempsey star as Tom in Made of Honor, trying to win over his best friend Michelle Monaghan’s character Hannah, you’ll also encounter a dual appearance from Grey’s Anatomy with Kevin McKidd. Known later for portraying military veteran and trauma surgeon Owen Hunt, he takes on the role of Colin, Hannah’s fiancé. Let’s hope surgical instruments remain out of reach for these two.

Old School (Ellen Pompeo)

Prior to portraying “Meredith Grey” in the television series “Grey’s Anatomy”, Ellen Pompeo appeared as Nicole in the 2003 comedy “Old School”. In this role, Nicole was Mitch, played by Luke Wilson, high school crush. Pompeo didn’t step into the world of hospital dramas until two years later.

Killing Eve (Sandra Oh)

Following the departure of Cristina Yang, Sandra Oh assumed the leading role in BBC’s series Killing Eve, portraying an MI6 agent tasked with hunting down proficient assassin Villanelle (performed by Jodie Comer). Over four seasons, these characters became embroiled in a thrilling game of persistent cat and mouse. Oh was honored with a Golden Globe for best actress, and her performance earned numerous Primetime Emmy nominations.

The Ring (Martin Henderson)

Martin Henderson entered the cast of “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2015 as Nathan Riggs, a character who became the love interest for both Meredith Grey and Megan Hunt. Prior to this, he shared screen time with Naomi Watts in one of the most terrifying horror movies ever made, titled “The Ring“, where he portrayed Rachel’s former husband.

Nashville (Chris Carmack)

In the year 2013, Chris Carmack was simply portraying a cowboy with a song and a dream on Nashville, not Link himself, but country singer Will Lexington. He stayed with the ABC/CMT musical drama for all six seasons until it concluded in the summer of 2018. Interestingly enough, only a few months later, Carmack stepped into the role we now recognize as the orthopedic surgeon we adore.

Roseanne/The Conners (James Pickens Jr.)

James Pickens Jr. has been a constant presence among the original cast of “Grey’s Anatomy” for an impressive 21 seasons (joining Chandra Wilson as one of the few), but prior to his role as Dr. Richard Webber, he played Chuck Mitchell on “Roseanne”. In 1990, he debuted as Dan’s (John Goodman) best friend, making guest appearances in 21 episodes throughout the years. Later, in 2018, Pickens returned to the character on ABC’s spinoff “The Conners”, appearing in nine episodes. Simultaneously, he has continued to portray Richard on “Grey’s Anatomy”.

The Practice (Jessica Capshaw)

Jamie Stringer, played by Jessica Capshaw, served as a primary character during Seasons 7 and 8 of the ABC legal drama “The Practice,” created by David E. Kelley. This series concluded in the year 2004, which was five years prior to when Capshaw won ours with her portrayal of pediatric surgeon Arizona Robbins, skating into our hearts on a pair of roller-skates.

The Offer (Justin Chambers)

Following Justin Chambers’ departure from Grey’s Anatomy in 2020, which happened rather abruptly, his subsequent role was on The Offer in 2022. In this Paramount+ miniseries, he took on the character of Marlon Brando across four episodes.

Knocked Up (Katherine Heigl)

During the time when Katherine Heigl was portraying Izzy Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy, she also appeared in numerous romantic comedies. Besides The Ugly Truth and 27 Dresses, the actress starred in the 2007 film, Knocked Up. In this movie, she played Alison Scott, a budding entertainment reporter who struggled to maintain a relationship with Seth Rogan’s character Ben, following a one-night stand that led to an unexpected pregnancy.

The Flight Attendant (T.R. Knight)

As a dedicated gamer, I can relate to the fervor fans had for George O’Malley on Grey’s Anatomy, and it’s understandable that his shocking demise left a lasting impact. So, when T.R. Knight, who played George, popped up as Davey Bowden in The Flight Attendant alongside Kaley Cuoco’s Cassie, I found myself instinctively guarding him. After all, he was a key player for the first season and even returned for a handful of episodes in the second.

True Blood (Camilla Luddington)

Prior to her role as Jo Wilson in Grey’s Anatomy’s ninth season, Camilla Luddington played the character Claudette, a telepathic fairy, during Season 5 of HBO’s fantasy series True Blood.

The Umbrella Academy (Kate Walsh)

Initially appearing in the first season of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, Dr. Addison Montgomery then became a regular series character for several seasons and even led the spinoff ‘Private Practice’. Actress Kate Walsh has made recurring guest appearances totaling 67 episodes over time. More recently, she can be seen on Netflix’s ‘The Umbrella Academy’, portraying The Handler in both the first two seasons. Although her character was killed off at the end of Season 2, it’s not much of a spoiler given that the show incorporates time travel.

And Just Like That… (Sara Ramirez)

Sara Ramirez was adored as Dr. Callie Torres on Grey’s Anatomy, but her character Che Diaz on And Just Like That… sparked a mix of affection and frustration among viewers. The actor featured in the first two seasons of the revival/sequel series, however, it was reported that she would not be continuing into Season 3.

Inventing Anna (Alexis Floyd)

It’s not surprising that there are similarities between “Inventing Anna” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” given that they both stem from the creative mind of Shonda Rhimes. Interestingly, the actress who portrayed Anna Delvey’s friend Neff in “Inventing Anna” is the same one who later joined “Grey Sloan Memorial” as Simone Griffith, months before. Additionally, actors Jeff Perry and Kate Burton, who played Meredith Grey’s parents Thatcher and Ellis in “Grey’s Anatomy,” appeared in “Inventing Anna.

Everwood (Sarah Drew)

Prior to joining the cast of Grey’s Anatomy as April Kepner (later known as one half of the beloved pair Japril), Sarah Drew had already made her mark in the third and fourth seasons of Everwood. During this time, she portrayed Hannah Rogers, a close friend of Amy, played by Emily VanCamp, and the girlfriend of Bright, who was brought to life by Chris Pratt.

The Thing About Harry (Jake Borelli, Niko Terho)

In 2020, Station 19’s then-upcoming showrunner Peter Paige penned and helmed a romantic comedy titled The Thing About Harry for Freeform, featuring Jake Borelli (known for his role as Levi Schmitt on Grey’s Anatomy) as Sam and Niko Terho portraying the lead character Harry, who used to bully Sam during their high school days. Two years later, Terho joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy as newcomer Lucas Adams, Derek Shepherd’s nephew, and while both Lucas and Levi appeared on Grey’s Anatomy concurrently, their characters from the movie did not reignite their romantic relationship.

24 (Kim Raver)

Kim Raver portrayed Jack Bauer’s girlfriend Audrey during Days 4, 5, and 6 on the series 24. Their relationship was tumultuous at best, with frequent instances of each believing the other had perished. On Day 6, Audrey even fell into a catatonic state. Later, Raver reprised her role as Audrey in 24: Live Another Day, which aired in 2014, five years after she first appeared on Grey’s Anatomy as Teddy Altman.

Supergirl (Chyler Leigh)

A few years following Lexi Grey’s departure from ABC’s medical drama, Chyler Leigh made her appearance on CBS’ Supergirl. In this series, she portrayed Alex Danvers, who is also known as Sentinel and is the adoptive sister of the main superheroine.

Fame (Debbie Allen)

Debbie Allen has a long list of distinguished projects, but among her most recognized roles are those as Lydia Grant from the 1980 film “Fame” and its 1982 television spin-off, in addition to playing Catherine Fox on “Grey’s Anatomy” and serving as executive producer.

The Cabin In The Woods (Jesse Williams)

At the start of his tenure as Jackson Avery on Grey’s Anatomy, Jesse Williams featured in the 2012 sci-fi/horror film The Cabin in the Woods. In this movie, he portrayed Holden McCrea, one of a group of college friends who were sent to a secluded cabin, where they were hunted by various monsters as part of an annual tradition.

Euphoria (Eric Dane)

Eric Dane, who was known as McSteamy on Grey’s Anatomy, switched things up significantly when he moved from ABC to HBO after his character Mark Sloan’s demise. In Euphoria, Dane portrays Cal Jacobs, the father of Nate, played by Jacob Elordi, and it’s safe to say that this role is far more adult-themed than what network television usually allows.

The Purge (Adelaide Kane)

Prior to her role as Jules Millin during the latest intern phase of Grey’s Anatomy, Adelaide Kane was seen portraying Zoey Sandin, the daughter of characters played by Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey (James and Mary) in the 2013 movie titled The Purge.

You (Scott Speedman)

Actor Scott Speedman temporarily stepped back from portraying Meredith Grey’s romantic interest Nick Marsh, instead appearing in Season 3 of Netflix’s series “You.” In this role, he played Matthew Engler, a character residing near the serial killer Joe Goldberg, portrayed by Penn Badgley.

Friends (Ellen Pompeo, Jason George)

Apart from playing the role of Missy Goldberg, a woman who caught the eye of both Chandler and Ross in college, on Friends’ Season 10 episode “The One Where the Stripper Cries,” it’s worth noting that Jason George (best known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 as Ben Warren) also appeared on Friends in Season 7’s “The One Where They’re Up All Night” as a firefighter. It seems the TV world enjoys portraying George as a firefighter character!

Dash And Lily (Midori Francis)

Previously on “Grey’s Anatomy”, Midori Francis played Mika Yasuda, but in 2020 she also appeared in Netflix’s “Dash & Lily”. Unfortunately, this series, adapted from the book by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, was terminated after only one season.

Firefly Lane (Katherine Heigl, Greg Germann)

Katherine Heigl took the lead in the 2021 Netflix adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s emotional novel “Firefly Lane.” The narrative chronicles the long-lasting friendship between Tully Hart (Heigl) and Kate Mularkey (Sarah Chalke). Notably, Gregory Germann, best known for his role as Tom Koracick on “Grey’s,” became a recurring character in the Netflix series’ second season, portraying Benedict Binswanger, an individual with connections to Tully’s past.

Glee (Harry Shum Jr.)

It’s a pity that Harry Shum Jr.’s talents as a singer and dancer weren’t fully displayed through his character Benson “Blue” Kwan on Grey’s Anatomy. However, he certainly demonstrated those skills when portraying Mike Chang on Glee from 2009 to 2015. Interestingly enough, Matthew Morrison, who played Will Schuester in Glee, had a rather chilling guest appearance on Grey’s, where he played Jo Wilson’s abusive husband Paul Stadler for four episodes spanning Seasons 13 and 14.

Brick (Nora Zehetner)

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but reflect on my brief yet memorable stint on “Grey’s” as Reed Adamson during Season 6. My time there was fleeting, but five years prior to that whirlwind, I had the privilege of sharing the screen with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Rian Johnson’s gripping neo-noir thriller, “Brick.

Liv And Maddie (Kali Rocha)

Kali Rocha portrayed the character Sydney Heron, who was excessively optimistic, during Seasons 2-4 of Grey’s Anatomy. Later, she reappeared in Season 21. Yet, it is possible that she is more recognized for her role as Karen Rooney, the mother of the twin protagonists in the Disney Channel series Liv and Maddie.

Trainspotting (Kevin McKidd)

Before becoming the well-known trauma specialist Dr. Owen Hunt on Grey’s Anatomy (with over 350 appearances), Kevin McKidd made his mark as Tommy in Danny Boyle’s 1996 dark comedy, Trainspotting.

Ally McBeal (Greg Germann)

Previously, Greg Germann appeared as Richard Fish in the Fox series ‘Ally McBeal’. Over the course of its five seasons, he played a role as a former law school companion of the main character portrayed by Calista Flockhart and a partner at their shared law firm.

Emily Owens, M.D. (Kelly McCreary)

When Kelly McCreary first appeared on Grey’s Anatomy in 2014, it might have seemed familiar to some viewers. This is because McCreary previously played Tyra Dupre on Emily Owens, M.D., a character who was a medical intern at a hospital and the daughter of the chief, much like the title character Emily Owens (played by Mamie Gummer). If Tyra and Emily had been discovered to be half-sisters, it would have certainly raised some eyebrows.
