As Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction Turns 30, Samuel L. Jackson Recalls The Moment He Knew The Film Was ‘Something Special’

As a fan who has grown up admiring the genius of Quentin Tarantino and the incredible talent of Samuel L. Jackson, I can’t help but feel a sense of awe when reflecting on the impact of “Pulp Fiction.” Having been introduced to cinema during the era of its release, I can still vividly remember the electrifying buzz that this masterpiece generated.

In 1992, Quentin Tarantino first captured the public’s interest with “Reservoir Dogs.” Two years later, he presented “Pulp Fiction,” a film that garnered critical praise and box office success. Some believe it to be his finest work, boasting an impressive cast as one of its standout features. Among this talented ensemble is Samuel L. Jackson, who portrayed Jules Winfield. To mark the 30th anniversary of “Pulp Fiction,” Jackson reminisced about the instant he realized the film was extraordinary.

Although Jackson has been professionally acting since the early 1970s, there’s no question that Pulp Fiction played a big role in boosting his professional profile. Playing Jules even netted him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and while Martin Landau ended up winning that category for playing Béla Lugosi in Ed Wood, Tarantino’s movie still did a remarkable job of making Jackson a household Hollywood name. Taking to his Instagram page, the Nick Fury performer shared various behind-the-scenes photos of the making of Pulp Fiction, promoting the movie, attending premieres for it and so forth, as well as wrote this caption:

30 years ago, PULP FICTION exploded onto the scene from Cannes, leaving an indelible mark on my gaming (movie-watching) life. On this very day in 1994, I witnessed its theatrical debut, and the audience’s response was electrifying. From that moment, I knew this movie was something extraordinary, and today, three decades later, it remains just as special.

Quentin Tarantino Answers Long-Standing Pulp Fiction Question

1994 saw the wide release of “Pulp Fiction” on October 14th, five months following its premiere at Cannes Film Festival where it won the prestigious Palm d’Or award. This recognition was significant, but for Samuel L. Jackson, the real validation came from observing the positive response among regular cinema-goers. Indeed, his intuition proved accurate as “Pulp Fiction” continues to be a topic of conversation today, whether fans are reminiscing about their favorite scenes or delving into behind-the-scenes stories from Quentin Tarantino’s second film.

Among Samuel L. Jackson’s fellow actors in the “Pulp Fiction” film were John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman, Ving Rhames, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, and Amanda Plummer. Notably, Jackson delivered several unforgettable scenes in this movie, with his most iconic being the recitation of Ezekiel 25:17 prior to carrying out an execution. As a follow-up to the previous “Pulp Fiction” tribute post, Jackson also shared a video of himself performing a modified version of that biblical passage.

If you now find yourself in the mood to watch Pulp Fiction, it can be streamed with a Paramount+ subscription. Otherwise, check out Samuel L.
