Meet actor born to superstar dad, inspired by Govinda, couldn't become successful and is now stepping into filmmaking

As an ardent fan of Mithun Chakraborty and his talented offspring, I find myself captivated by the journey of Namashi Chakraborty. Born into the glamorous world of Bollywood, yet choosing to forge his own path and make a name for himself, Namashi embodies the spirit of resilience and determination.

Mithun Chakraborty is a seasoned actor who has kept audiences entertained for many years. Following in his father’s career path, Namashi Chakraborty too chose to act and enter the entertainment industry. Last year, the newcomer, Namashi, made his acting debut, starring alongside another fresh face, Amrin Qureshi, in Rajkumar Santoshi’s film titled “Bad Boy.

It’s been noted that Namashi Chakraborty is known for his comedy skills, frequently showcasing them at bustling city venues. Following his education in Tamil Nadu, he honed his dance moves under the tutelage of Shiamak Davar’s institute and furthered his acting education. Before embarking on his current career path, he was a film critic. Despite being the son of Dadasaheb Phalke Award-winner and Yogeeta Bali, Namashi didn’t leverage the usual advantages within the industry. Instead, he worked diligently to secure his first movie role, “Bad Boy,” directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, at age 32.

Speaking with The Times Of India, I, Namashi Chakraborty, confessed that even my parents didn’t know when I signed my debut film! Incredibly, not even the director was aware that I was Mithun Da’s son – ‘Disco Dancer”s heir. Yet, Raj kept commenting on the resemblance to the senior actor. I’ve always been driven by a burning passion to act and had no backup plan whatsoever. My father and Shah Rukh Khan were significant influences in my life, but it was Govinda who truly ignited my desire to enter films. Among my siblings – Mahaakshay, Ushmey, and Dishani Chakraborty – we all work in the entertainment industry. I proudly admitted to the publication that I have certain mannerisms reminiscent of SRK, Govinda, and my beloved father.

Despite being new to the field, the actor openly shared that he was once replaced following a nearly ten-day shoot for a movie. In an interview with TOI, he admitted, “I had to audition for a film and ended up getting turned down.” Namashi expresses enthusiasm about collaborating with Sara Ali Khan and Triptii Dimri, but considers Saif Ali Khan’s daughter as the most attractive among them all. Notably, this emerging talent previously acted and directed the short film “Hero” in 2013, served as an assistant director for his brother Mahaakshay’s movie, and recently appeared alongside Nikki Tamboli in the 2023 production India Fashion Factory.

During an exclusive chat with TopMob, Mithun Chakraborty spoke about his son Namashi and the hardships he went through in his acting career. He told us, “I would like to say that Namashi faced a lot of pain. I say pain in the sense that I knew everything. That he is going to give an audition and how people have behaved with him. They didn’t even let him stand. I know everything. When he came out, they would know that he is Mithun Da’s (my) son and the people inside would be like ‘Oh my God. What did we do’. I do feel the guilt. Then I think that there are so many like me; when I came into the industry.”

In a subsequent remark, the actor from “The Kashmir Files” said, “Many people in Mumbai face hardships. Reflecting on this, I felt it was necessary for him to experience it himself. His role in the movie belongs entirely to him. Neither I nor anyone else ever reached out to him. To everyone, I am just the same. One must strive to succeed in life, battle through challenges, and fight one’s own battles. He’s fortunate that his producer is exceptional.

Following an attempt at acting, it seems Namashi is planning to move into filmmaking, according to recent reports from News18. This claim comes from a now-deleted social media post by the individual himself, which hinted at this change. The publication states that he wrote in his post, “On my birthday today, I announce my debut as a director, to be produced under MYRND MOVIES by me. I will also play the main character in the film.
