5 Scariest PS5 Games for Halloween

As someone who’s spent countless hours cowering behind walls and jumping at every creak in the night, I must say that these games have truly given me goosebumps and left me with chills down my spine. The Resident Evil 4 Remake has taken my breath away with its stunning graphics and terrifying creatures lurking around every corner. The eerie fog-covered streets of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories sent shivers through my very soul, making even the bravest players quiver in fear at the sight of those mannequins.

The Halloween Season is finally here. Some games are the perfect place to get yourself in a spooky mood. The PlayStation 5 has a great library to enjoy some late night scares.

If you’re on the hunt for some heart-pounding moments, check out these 5 terrifying PlayStation 5 games perfect for your Halloween gaming experience!

Dead Space

Isaac Clarke’s one bad day could be ours too. Dead Space, especially the remake, is the perfect start for our scariest PS5 games list. The Necromorphs are a vile threat that plagues the USG Ishimura and our lowly space engineer Isaac is not having it.

Equipped with a reliable Plasma Cutter, amputate the limbs of these inexplicable monstrosities and search for your lost wife. For those embarking on their first Dead Space adventure, get ready to navigate cramped corridors in search of answers regarding the mysterious fate of this abandoned spacecraft.

Unlike the 2013 version, this remake offers much more than just improved graphics. It includes numerous enhancements, particularly in movement and combat mechanics. While the original’s combat was not outdated, the Remake significantly elevated the level of detail in its Necromorph gore and dismemberment effects.

Exploring the revamped station now offers unexpected surprises for seasoned Dead Space players. While you may recognize familiar landmarks, beware as a Necromorph could attack you at any moment, lurking nearby. Suspect areas include vents and seemingly lifeless Necromorphs that might just spring to life. Moreover, the game’s improved 3D audio adds an extra layer of suspense when you hear strange noises coming from unidentified locations.

The Remake also did a great job fixing its quest structure. We still have the original’s chapter-based story, but we can backtrack from previous areas of the ship without having to reload previous saves. This encourages exploration and finding more secrets to this alien infestation.

If you’re interested in stories about terrifying Lovecraftian creatures reminiscent of films such as Event Horizon and The Fly, then the recently released Dead Space Remake should definitely catch your eye.

Alan Wake II

Coming up next is the sequel by Remedy Entertainment, following up on their 2010 supernatural horror game titled Alan Wake. Alan Wake II builds significantly upon its original, expanding its intricate science-fiction narrative with additional depths. This game was celebrated with numerous awards last year for a good reason.

In Alan Wake II, the narrative unfolds thirteen years following the incidents of the initial game. This sequel offers a unique, interchangeable protagonist setup, allowing players to effortlessly transition between Alan Wake and FBI Agent Saga Anderson.

In this follow-up, they skillfully portrayed the chilling turmoil that gripped a picturesque village. Though Bright Falls might seem idyllic with its charming townsfolk, the looming specter of the unknown began to taint its citizens.

In the mysterious Dark Place, Remedy skillfully crafts a blend of nightmarish terror and surrealism. These otherworldly levels transport you to bizarre realms that defy explanation. Being trapped in such a place for 13 years, with shadowy figures as companions, is undeniably disconcerting. This aspect is crucial since Sam Lake, the mind behind Alan Wake, draws inspiration from David Lynch’s works, particularly Twin Peaks.

In their individual adventures across different realms, both Saga and Alan encounter unique terrors. This third-person survival horror game instills a chilling atmosphere, amplified by the uncertainty about the nature of the creatures we’re confronting. It’s the fear of the unknown that Alan Wake masterfully exploits. Fortunately, we can rely on flashlights and an array of firearms to repel these sinister beings, sending them back where they came from.

Alien Isolation

As I navigate the eerie corridors of this abandoned spaceship, it’s like I’m living the terrifying reality of ‘Alien: Isolation’. Just like in ‘Dead Space’, I find myself isolated, hunted by a relentless alien menace lurking in the shadows. Every creak and rustle echoes through the silent void, turning even the most mundane tasks into heart-pounding adventures.

However, unlike Dead Space, we lack tools such as Plasma Cutters, devastating moves akin to a powerful curb stomp, and Laser Rifles for destroying the Perfect Organism. Even the character Isaac Clarke stands no chance against an Xenomorph.

Alien: Isolation has garnered numerous accolades, primarily due to the Xenomorph’s awe-inspiring artificial intelligence. Unlike other creatures, you can’t outrun this perfect organism; instead, you must outwit it. It relentlessly pursues you in every nook and seems to remember where you last took refuge, giving the impression of near-perfect precision.

Regardless of how much like Sigourney Weaver’s intellect we manage to emulate, the alien remains an unforeseeable entity. Adjusting our approach frequently could potentially grant us additional time. Should it be as cunning as us, we can merely cross our fingers that it commits a blunder.

If you’re a fan of the Alien films or enjoy being chased by relentless foes like Mr. X from Resident Evil 2, this game is ideal for you!

Silent Hill 2 Remake

2024 saw an unyielding grip on us with its remarkable lineup of remakes, including the revamp by Bloober Team and Konami of the tale of James Sunderland – a job they executed exceptionally well.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is a terrifying game and we’re not even kidding. It is designed to scare the living crap out of us. Everything about it is carefully crafted to spook us– with its eerie sound design, tricky levels, and fog-covered streets.

Despite the enhancements in the remake’s gameplay, we can’t fully predict what lurks around the corner. This is particularly unnerving for newcomers to Silent Hill, and even veterans find themselves shuddering at the appearance of these terrors, especially those creepy mannequins.

Among all the games on this list, this one stands out as my preferred choice for a Halloween game. It offers a chilling and melancholic experience that lingers even after you finish playing. It’s indeed a horror game, but it also serves as a haunting portrayal of James’ personal torment, inviting us to share in his nightmare.

Amnesia: The Bunker

We close this list with a game series everyone’s probably familiar with. The Bunker is considered by many as the scariest Amnesia game to date, even surpassing the original!

Title “The Bunker” presents a seemingly straightforward concept: You’re escaping from an abandoned World War I bunker. However, given past Amnesia series, the road to liberation is far from easy. The chilling horrors that lie ahead in this game will linger long after playtime, and “The Bunker” skillfully replicates that unsettling experience.

In this Bunker setting, you’ll navigate its corridors, discover save points, lighting fixtures, and more, but each playthrough offers a unique experience. The layout of the puzzles and placement of traps vary, and you’re never alone as a menacing creature lurks around every corner. That’s correct. You’re not venturing into this Bunker solo.

Experiencing terror as you seek a way out and flee from this enigmatic, relentless beast is what makes The Bunker such an unsettling adventure. This isn’t your average creature; it’s an unyielding, terrifying specter that refuses to perish. Not even a fully-loaded gun can subdue it, but at least it recoils from fire.

The spooky season of Halloween has kicked off, and there’s more than just chills up for grabs on the PlayStation 5. Titles like the Resident Evil 4 Remake, The Evil Within 2, and the indie game Crow Country are other must-play horror experiences. Each of these five games offers unique terrors that we can’t help but suggest you check out. A little extra precaution: don’t forget to stock up on extra undergarments!
