As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for art, my eyes were instantly drawn to Robert Moreland‘s latest creation, “Blue Switchback with Curve”. Having traversed countless virtual landscapes, I can attest that this piece is a testament to the power of geometry and light in immersive storytelling.
As an ardent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Robert Moreland, a talented artist hailing from Los Angeles, is about to unveil the sequel to his print series, this time in partnership with Detroit gallery Louis Buhl & Co. Building on the success of his grand-scale piece, Red Rectangle (2023), the upcoming print promises to retain a geometric sensibility that has become Moreland’s trademark. By skillfully translating the three-dimensional depth he masterfully achieves in his wall works onto the printed surface, this new creation is sure to captivate us once more!
The “Blue Switchback with Curve” design subtly plays with the viewer’s perspective, creating an illusion of a cobalt-colored tunnel in the center due to skillfully crafted shapes and a strategic use of spot varnish. This technique, used by Moreland, adds a sense of depth and dimension. The gallery describes this as Moreland’s ability to replicate the visual interaction of light on his sculptures, thereby transferring the tactile experience of his physical creations onto paper, linking two and three dimensions.
Only 35 pieces are available in this exclusive edition, each piece measuring 36 inches by 36 inches and featuring UV print on high-quality Hot Press 325gsm Coventry Rag paper. Each piece is individually signed and numbered by the artist. If you’re interested in owning one of these unique pieces, please consider joining the early interest list at Louis Buhl & Co.
